It's been 1 whole year.

1 year since he kissed you.

1 year since you ran away.

I waited a year.

I thought it was long enough to get over you.

But it's not.

I still feel just the same as I did the night I took this picture.

The night you didn't come home.

The night she waited on the bed like this for hours for you.

The night our other dog slept by the door.

It's been a whole year.

And it still feels like we're waiting for you to come back home.

I doubt I'll ever lock my doors or turn the lights out at night again.

4 crappily painted walls, 2 very sad and guilty bodies, 20 fingers that always interlocked just right, 3 febreze wall plugins, 2 phone chargers and 2 end table fans instead of just 1, the smell of your body lotion after a shower, the smell of old spice and the sound of two lovesick puppies playing together as I got ready for work in the morning.

1 house. 1 home.

A million memories...

Mostly good, although we like to convince ourselves differently.

It wasn't much, but it was... home.

You were... home.

You'll always be home.

Always when I want to despise you the most...

Am I reminded how much I need to just... come back home again.

It wasn't just fights and unfinished projects and stress.

It was us, building something.

And I wish we didn't run out of fight just when we were finally getting somewhere. I wish we fought harder.

I wish we fought til the end.

Because it would have ended.

We would've won the battle.

I know we would've.

The feelings I got from seeing this tonight blindsided me.

I didn't expect to be reminded just how much I need you and our children at a time when I'm convinced I need to be building something new with someone else and moving on.

I don't want to build a new home.

I want to continue building ours.

Though I constantly tell myself otherwise...

I'm not ready for this to be over either.

Right here... in this room... is where you tried to tear my walls down. I'm sorry I didn't listen.

Right here... a year ago... you begged me... to just...

"Can we have the fight? Please? I want to fight. Right now. Let's fight. I wanna have a fucking fight."

And I said no.

I wish now... that we fought.

I wish we fought until we were all out of fight and collapsed onto our bed, OUR bed, and just cried and held each other as we wondered how we were ever so fucking stupid and why we couldn't just do a few simple things for one another.

I wish we had the fight...

Because I know it'd be worth it.

It was ALWAYS worth it.

Even now, more than ever.

It's never been clearer to me that clawing at each other's throats for 3 months or however long it takes to get all this horrible toxic shit out of ourselves and kill it off for good in such a way that it never comes back again, may just be exactly what we need.

I wanna have the fight.

And even more than that...

I pray you still have one more round in you too.
