De-stress.
Do it. Extract Sighs from my lips while you part my Thighs. Remember, I need your all. Your Everything. Sip from my overflowing cup and Set me aflame. -K. Alecia
How I Explain Fear to Toddlers
There’s this thing called a Fear that really sucks.
Sometimes a Fear is helping to keep you safe, but often it’s getting in your way. When it’s getting in your way, it’s sometimes it’s called an “irrational fear,” which can sort of make it sound like it’s not Real, but if you’ve ever had an irrational fear you know as well as me that it’s as Real as any other Fear.
The worst part about irrational fears is that they g r o w over-time, but that doesn’t mean you are stuck forever with an increasing fear.
You can keep it from g r o w i n g by facing it as soon as you’re ready. The moment you decide you want to overcome your fear you’re ready to start trying.
Once you face the Fear, it won’t automatically go away. But, after you face the thing you have a fear of one or two or six times, you will start to notice that it is not actually hurting you. You’re still OK. You face it three or four or twenty-four times and slowly you’ll realize the Fear is starting to go away.
Sometimes the fear will be completely gone, like a kid who’s discovered jumping in the deep end is actually fun. But sometimes, the fear will have such deep roots it will takes years to regain control of your life. There may always be uneasiness about the thing you had a fear of, but eventually you will be the one who controls your life.
No matter how many times you have to face your fear, once you start facing it, the fear is no longer growing. and the most important thing is that the fear no longer controls you. You will get to live your life the way it’s meant to be lived.
