When the ship is wrecked what difference does it make that
some should be drowned far out at sea, and others come
nearer land, and there be lost?
or even that one is within arm’s length of the shore
when he sinks forever out of sight?
What does it avail? They are all lost.
This world is a wrecked world; the strongest soul cannot reach
the haven of a perfect state of being in his own strength.
We are all helpless against the storm of lightning and wind and
waves. “There is no difference, for all have sinned.”
~ H. Elvet Lewis
This of course reminds me of something I googled recently, it was
the mention of a cruise ship which tried to mimick the grandeur of
the Titanic without having to repeat its infamous history.
But repeat it did, as the ship sank, people panicked & began to
jump overboard, this they thought was to swim ashore the land
which was in sight.

Inside the Costa Concordia Disaster

Jan.13, 2012 at 7pm as the Costa Concordia set sail from
the port of Civitavecchia, Italy.
Captain Francesco Schettino was on the bridge when the ship hit rocks and sank in 2012, killing 32 people.
He was accused of taking the liner too close to the shore and then abandoning ship with passengers and crew still on board.
Prosecutors had sought a 26-year jail term but the court sentenced Schettino to 10 years for multiple manslaughter, five years for causing the shipwreck and one year for abandoning his passengers.
Investigators had severely criticised his handling of the disaster, accusing him of bringing the 290m-long vessel too close to shore when it struck rocks off the Tuscan island of Giglio.
The ship was ripped open when it hit the shore and more than 4,000 passengers and crew were forced into a chaotic evacuation.
