hello! i am trying to finish a first draft of my wip by the end of the year, so i created this little challenge for myself. it starts on october 1st and will run through december 31st.

my daily goal is to set aside one hour everyday to write or work on my novel in some capacity. weekly accountability posts will be every friday!

i set up a notion calendar with a writing hour scheduled everyday for the rest of the year. i'm actually hoping to finish the week before christmas so i can enjoy the holidays, but the remainder of the days are there if i need them!

i had this idea for myself, but anyone is welcome to join in! just let me know if you'd like to be on the taglist. you can do your own daily goal (could be daily word count, time spent writing, etc) and weekly accountability post and tag it #90daynovel. also feel free to tag me :)

this week i finally finished my index card wall! filled in those empty middle columns that have always given me so much trouble 😌

in terms of actual writing and word count, this week i broke 70k but still haven’t hit that 50% mark yet 🙈 it’s gonna be a long draft. future me problems.

90 Day Novel Update 10/31

feeling super energized because i got so much plotting done for the middle of my story this week! acts 3 and 4 (in a 7 act structure) have always been giant question marks, and i've got act 3 all plotted out. hopefully i can finish act 4 by the end of the weekend!

on my "finish novel wip by christmas challenge" calendar, today i was supposed to be 50% of the way through the story. that did not happen, but i'm feeling so pumped about this week's progress. ✨

still need to do quite a bit to reach my goal of finishing this first draft by the end of the year, but this week has been fairly productive. writing new words, untangling plot tangles. onward ✨

90 Day Novel Update

updating from the car today! didn’t get much done this week in terms of words written. having a work trip last week and a family trip this weekend (hence the car update), plus other things, this month has been off to a super busy, slightly rocky, and tiny bit stressful start. 😅

had a great feedback session with my local writing group last night, though. i thought i would hate these meetings when we started them, but they’ve turned into a huge motivator for me!

current trip i’m on is the last big thing i’ve got for october. planning to do some brainstorming in the car today if i can prevent the motion sickness. and hopefully things will calm down next week so i can actually get some writing done!

actually got some new words in this week! thanks to a really good feedback session with my writing group and sneaking in some writing time on my lunch hour.

my goal is to be 75% of the way through this story by the end of the month! which means i need to do a lot of writing in november. really hoping i can hammer out some more by the end of the weekend! 🖤

friday accountability update! (i almost forgot to do this 🙈)

words: 60,9000 percentage into story: 30% mood: what are word counts???

i think because i was originally afraid i would end up with not enough words, i have been including all the words in this draft. so i'm currently at 60k and not even to the midpoint of the story. 🙃 i'm trying to not let this bother me, though. this is also why i'm shooting for working on this wip for an hour each day instead of a daily word count goal, which is what i usually do. because this draft is going to go way over no matter what lol.

didn't write a ton of new words this week because i had a last minute work trip (and it's only october 3rd lol), but i did do a TON of development on the middle part of my story (which has always been the weakest).

the last couple of weeks have been absolutely crazy for me, and i'm really hoping i haven't set an insanely unreasonable goal for myself with this challenge! hoping this next week i'll be able to focus on the writing schedule i've made for myself.
