Seeing a lot of k so I'm here with another non k related ask!

When i looked at a vid from connor's event i was watching him chew his gum (which i stand by being nicotine gum to help soothe his nerves) i was left thinking how he wouldn't need to if he was at an event that allowed smoking. Then i shook my head thinking none would be like that, what is this the 90s? Then i was hit with the idea what if all of this shifted and was taking place in the 90s instead? What would change? I have a bunch of bulleted headcanons but not enough to write a fic on and i was wondering what yours (if you have any ideas) might be? I'll start: I think they both have pagers glued to them to keep in touch and connor keeps missing hudson's calls at home from being online looking at tripod pages about his niche interests. Huddy is more on geocities. (I think I'll send the others i come up with as dashboard cleanses later)

I’m So sorry and this is 💯 going to show my age but I don’t know much about the 90s except princess Diana… but if it was the 90s tho, i swear those two would have been called bachelors or something And I know they would be living together for sure… 🫠 so I want on a small research abc here’s what I got

Connor will have a disposable camera and it will just be filled with pics of Hudson and he has dozens of albums of Hudson being silly

Hudson will bring Connor a new mix tape every month and his Xmas present for Connor would be a Walkman

Connor won’t stop making bracelets for Hudson and Hudson shows it off to everyone, many of them are inside jokes

Hudson would rent a blockbuster movie every Friday and they would watch some batshit horror filled artistic nightmare of a movie and call it brilliant

They both think FRIENDS is a terrible show but watch it just to critic it and find themselves relating to Chandler and Monica a little too much. They love Phoebe and will fight everyone about it. They both hate Ross.

Twin peak is their religion , they’ve never seen the Simpsons … they both have a crush on Gillian Anderson for vastly different reasons

Neither of them can skate but they feel compelled to go ice skating during a holiday ski trip and that’s where they meet a younger Jacob Tierney … they help him realise some things about himself … platonically.

He makes a movie about them and how they fell, it becomes famous for not ending in a tragedy.

I am compelled to once again remind you folks for your period typical 90s fics that you cannot film over an official VHS tape. A store-bought VHS of a movie or show whatever could NOT be filmed over - only special tapes could be filmed over and rewritten.

VHS tapes did need to be rewound, however they were not rewound with (checks fic) .... pencils.

That was for cassette tapes to FIX the film if the tape player pulled the film out (which did happen sometimes).

Most VHS players in the 90s had a rewind function to rewind the tape, some people purchased separate rewind machines whose only function was to rewind tape - these allegedly safer for the tape and quicker. It didn't take long to rewind tapes, a standard 90 minute film would only take maybe 3-5 minutes to rewind, so they couldn't save THAT much time imo. You just pushed rewind and then walked away, the machine would stop when it was done.

Yes, some video rental places WOULD give you a fine if you did not rewind your tape if they caught you. It was common etiquette to rewind a rented movie. "Be Kind, Rewind, OR ELSE."
