Unpopular opinion: I did not like Mother’s Boy. It wasn’t a buddiesode in my opinion, it was an Eddie-to-the-rescue with nobody having any regards for his safety, bc it’s Buck 🤨 Athena’s “it’s not about you” followed by Maddie’s tearful nod pissed me off. I don’t care if Buck is Athena’s late husbands little boy or Maddie’s baby brother (the man is 34 fing years old!)—the three of them did nothing to put themselves at risk and were perfectly content letting Eddie, a man with a motherless teenage son, hobble out into the dessert without so much as asking if he’s okay or telling him to be careful. On top of that, everyone allowed two severely injured men to drive 10 hours home in a tiny car while they all continued to sit on their asses, at a party the guest of honor didn’t even attend! And I’m seeing words like “masterpiece” and “no notes”—I have plenty of notes 😆 In my opinion, Dumb Luck was a masterpiece and is my comfort episode
I am so sorry, I am having a terrible day and that’s causes intrusive thoughts to creep in. I also have a bit of a parasocial relationship with Eddie in which I’m probably way too protective and think he’s more overlooked than he probably is (that says absolutely nothing about how I see myself…jk) And it makes me resent Buck, who I used to love but now think just gets way too much attention, and will continue to get it, yet still occasionally gripe about feeling unloved.
You do not have to reply to this. I also didn’t send it to rage bait you. You’re just a very positive person in your responses and I know if anybody could validate and/or reframe these chaotic thoughts, it might be you!
Hi Nonny! Well, it's okay to have your own opinion on things. The world would be a boring place if we all thought the same. 🤷♀️
I definitely identify most with Eddie as well. He is 'my guy' when it comes to this show. I do love Buck, but not nearly as much as I love Eddie. When Buck and Eddie are on my screen, my attention will be on Eddie the whole time. That's how I roll. 😁
You probably already know just how much I loved 'Mother's boy' as a buddiesode, sure... but also... I loved it even more because it was an awesome Eddiesode. As an Eddie centered person this episode just hit all the right buttons for me.
The way he was looking for Buck while being wounded hit all my 'Die Hard' buttons. It had John McClane written all over it and I admit that I have a soft spot for the first 'Die Hard' movie. I love it when characters are in peril themselves, but they still venture out to save others despite of their own wounds.
And I get what you are saying with the others not lifting a finger and expecting Eddie to do the heavy lifting while being wounded. But they were very far away and Eddie was their 'only hope'. He was their Obi Wan. LOL!
So listen, in the real world all of those people would have NEVER (not in a million years) told Eddie to jump out of the window while having just survived a car crash, but this is 911, so anything can happen. I mean... Bobby once had a storyline where he got into trouble with the cartel. The man was a Fire Captain, not James Bond, but he still got involved. Shit happens on 911. Can't escape it.
And in my twisted little '90s Die Hard John McClane world' I kind loved it when Eddie was running all over to look for Buck. It was kinda romantic. 🤭🤷♀️
I fully agree that Eddie is an overlooked character though. He deserves better storylines who actually lead somewhere and he deserves more than to just get stabbed and die in an elevator, because they didn't know what to do with his character. 😤
And don't say sorry! It's fine. We all have terrible no good days where everything seems worse than it really is. I've been there and I'm sure I'll be there again.
I fully understand that you didn't mean to ragebait. Your post didn't feel like ragebait at all. Trust me... I've gotten enough ragebait to last me a lifetime. I KNOW what it looks like.
I don't know if my reply will help you out in any way. I'm just a rambling fan like all of them out here. 😆 But I do tend to try to stay positive and optimistic. I don't see any value in making myself miserable over a TV show that I genuinly love.
Hopefully I have brightened up your day somewhat!
You have a good one as well!
