Fanfiction Help Requested.

Can someone tell me if there’s a common tag for 9-1-1 that lets me block the entire “Pick Your Poison” episode arc? I fucking hate it and it’s ruined the show for me as a whole.

For me it’s tainted what came after it and it’s slowly invaded other parts of fandom I enjoy - fanart, fanvideos, fanfiction.

I’ve always ignored addiction/dependency storylines when they’ve come up in the past for the characters - minus Bobby’s pre-existing addiction he’s had since he was introduced when looking for fanfiction. It’s not a storyline I enjoy at all. It’s not a slight against addiction, dependency, or addicts. It’s just not a storyline I like. And I’ve done the mature thing of moving beyond them in the results and found work I enjoy.

This further impacts the whole Theo thing. I don’t care about the kid one way or another. I’m very ambivalent to them. HOWEVER since he comes in after the dependency storyline, I can’t bring myself to interact with media that has him because, like I said earlier, his arrival is tainted by the dependency. He came after it happened and now if he’s in fanfiction that means he comes AFTER the dependency is considered canon.

I have fanfiction authors and video creators and fan artists I follow and I adore their work but the moment I see Theo is involved I’m turned off the work because it means the dependency has been taken as canon - and YES - I do look at the tags if it’s a fanfiction and try to make my determination off that but not everyone tags it or its not tagged consistently.

I’m upset because it’s cutting into the stories I can read and enjoy or I get the rug pulled out from under me when it appears in the work. I don’t want to fully rip season 9 out of the story (although I have a lot of problems with it, personally) because I don’t want to miss out on amazing fan works. But is there a consistent tag that people are using to block Buck’s addiction/dependency storyline out of their fanwork results?

I’m not looking for a debate on why I’m supposedly an asshole or not a real fan or how I should leave the fandom if I’m that upset over a plot. I’ve been here since the damn pilot episode and I love the series. But this storyline is something I CANNOT stand with so I have decided to leave the series and immerse myself only in the fandom. I have done this before with many other fandoms but it’s only this one that I’m having trouble navigating what tags to block and avoid. I’m no less of a fan because a show crossed a line or made a decision I disagree with. I love this series and I love the characters. And I love it enough to know when to leave the running series to enjoy the world fandom has invented. Marvel fans of the first Avengers movie can attest to this, I feel.

TLDR: I hate Buck’s dependency storyline for many reasons. I want to read and enjoy fanfiction without it but tags are too broad. I ask for tecommended tags please and thank you.

People big mad that Buck is taking care of a kid: what show have you been watching to not have seen this coming since season 1 or at the latest season 2? Buck’s entire arc has been about not feeling like he belongs anywhere and that no one wants him for who he is. He found his family in the 118 but he was always going to have kids one day. Especially after having Chris in his life and meeting Eddie. Not to mention, Theo is a kid that some might say is “hard to love” which Buck has felt and been told his whole life. Taking Theo in and being the guardian (even temporarily) to him and showing Theo he can be loved just how he is, that’s full circle for Buck’s character. AND if you didn’t call that Buck was going to get custody of the donor kid in someway when the storyline aired…? Like I can’t help you and no one else can. That was a big storyline to just have it never come up again. It was inevitable. That’s how tv works.

Also! It’s fucking abc prime time. The target audience is couples and families finally sitting down after a long day. They like kids and they want to see people have families and deal with family drama in their shows. Hence the popularity of so many family shows in the past and present. Yes, not everyone needs to have kids to be happy. I’m definitely one of those people. But I’m not ignorant of the show I watch. It’s not catered to my interests because a single 30 something who doesn’t want kids right now is not the 911 demographic and I’m cool with that.

All this to say, if you are upset because you didn’t want Buck to have kids or get the donor baby then you should have stopped watching years ago. You disappointed yourself by being blind to what was right in front of you.

Also on an unrelated note… Theo is going to be good for buddie. And as much as I wanted a confirmation of some kind, I’m not dooming like I was last year or over winter hiatus because I can actually see the trajectory of this.

Okay rant over. Happy hiatus and stop hating on a good ass episode. We all know what Tim is capable of, so let’s take the win!

If Tim wants to go full ao3 plot he should have Buck run into trouble getting full custody of Theo because of his little stint as a drug addict less than a month ago) and have Eddie either interrupt such a conversation with the social worker to say something like “what if he has a reliable partner to support him.” And the social worker is like “well that would change things.” And Eddie just reaches out his hand and says “hi Eddie Diaz, bucks partner. He has support.”

Or have Eddie bring it up to Buck like “what if you had a partner and you weren’t alone. If they knew you had someone who would not only help you not relapse from the added stress but also care for Theo as if he was their own?”

“That’d be great Eddie but we don’t live in that reality we live in this one.”

“Yeah and in this one you have me.”

“But we aren’t partners…”

“She doesn’t know that. And it’s not like I’m not going to be helping you every step of the way anyway. We just tell them i have a different title. Instead of best friend, we’ll say I’m your boyfriend. Easy. Problem solved.”

And Buck silently spirals lol

If Buck does get a kid I can’t wait for Chris to be like, “this is great I always wanted a baby brother!” And leave Eddie or Buck or both of them preferably, spiraling while Chris goes off to meet Theo like he didn’t just throw a grenade and run away. lol
