99) I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking this is a rather bland photo of a bland guy standing next to a bland mailbox. And you’re completely right. There is absolutely nothing exciting about this photo. It wouldn’t even win a “Thanks for Trying” ribbon at the county fair. But there’s a reason for this. Did you notice that this is the 99th post? That means that tomorrow’s post is a rather big deal, so I deliberately put something dull here today to make tomorrow all the more exciting. Genius, pure genius.
Location: Sand Point, NE 65th Street at 53rd Ave NE
82) Look at this photo of a fine Maple Leaf mailbox, it almost appears that I deliberately positioned a small action figure on the rock wall to the right of the box. I can assure you that I did no such thing, and in fact this is simply a consequence of the gritty gonzo urban photography style that I’m so well-known for. Really, if you go over to 20th Ave NE at NE 77th Street you will find no trace of this or any other action figure.
61) You want a prime example of a fine mailbox? You can’t do much better than this sturdy specimen stationed right outside the main entrance to what used to be called the Naval Station Puget Sound. Now I think everyone just calls it Sand Point. Either way, it’s got that swell brick wall and there’s an unmanned guard station right around the corner! Not surprisingly, you’ll find this box on Sand Point Way NE at NE 74th Street.
59) As you can see, everything is A-OK at this sturdy box in Maple Leaf. The sidewalks are clean and little tykes are being enrolled NOW to satisfy their gymnastic needs. Don’t believe me? You can head over to Roosevelt Way NE at NE 89th Street to see for yourself.
52) Running Series (9/9): This special edition running series concludes with a joyful visit to this box on 1st Ave NE at NE 77th Street. I hope you’ve enjoyed coming along on this run with me, and I strongly recommend this route if you have a lot of things to mail but don’t want to put them all in one box.
43) Do I ever have a special treat for you! I recently noticed that one of our regular running routes is absolutely loaded with mailboxes, so for the next nine days I am presenting an exciting themed series of photos that will thrill young and old alike. Here we go!
Running Series (1/9): The journey begins with a stop by the mailbox outside the Little Red Hen on the north end of Green Lake. For the longest time, the Hen was touted as the only country music bar within Seattle, and as far as I know it may still be. I bet this particular mailbox has seen more than its share of 2:00 a.m. shenanigans. Maybe it even saw what you did that one night you were stumbling along Woodlawn Ave N at NE 72nd Street.
