Nah, I am totally sure 9S is yandere for 2B. I would like to avoid spoilers but considering the second part of the game there is no denying he is yandere. A really strong back-up for this would be the "You want to **** 2B" part. Although a lot fans here in the Ocident went ahead and interpreted it in a sexual way, the Japanese fans automatically substituted the **** with break. Interesting, isn't it? I have been looking for the extra material too and some novels from 9S POV just made me sure1/2

Seriously. To any of our anons out there who want to counter our post on a “if he is or isn’t a yandere”, just tell us the spoilers. Put a spoiler warning if you want but don’t go “well, actually-” and then not give the evidence to support your claim. You’re not helping your point by doing it and you’re making our job 10 times harder.
Anyway, about Nier, I’ll talk about your points below the cut because I feel like this is going to be a long discussion ε-(´・｀)
So about your points, I at first thought I might have been wrong and at some point in the game 2B and 9S’s relationship turned romantic. So I googled what their relationship was and oh boy did that open a can of worms.
There are dozen of forums debating what their relationship was and if they view each other as romantic or not. If it was one sided or not. I’m talking about forums with 500+ comments debating about their actions. It’s clear their two sides here saying that 2B and 9S are “clearly in a romantic relationship because of X, Y, and Z”. And the other side saying “You guy’s are just enforcing you’re own heteronormative views on these two characters. There’s other relationships shown in Nier that tackle these issues-” yada yada yada. This shit goes on forever.
It’s easier to say that 2B and 9S’s relationship is “complicated”. But here at ThatYandereCritic, we don’t like facts to be “complicated”. We want them to be clear enough for us to say “yes or no”. So for us, it’s better to say it’s up to interpretation if it’s romantic or not. Some people might see your facts as a close friendship evidence and others might support you in saying “yes, it’s romantic.”
Since we don’t believe in “platonic yanderes” it means for one half of the group, 9S isn’t a yandere because he doesn’t see 2B romantically. But then in the other group, 9S is a yandere because he does see 2B romantically. So that’s the tea. Depending on how you view their relationship, it defines if 9S is a yandere or not. As for how strong he is as a yandere, we have to look at his actions.
From what I seen, 9S doesn’t have many “Creeper Actions” besides being over protective, a little clingy, and the whole thing about his memories. But the thing with the memory issue is that anyone would be pissed and ruffled if they know they’re getting killed over and over again and also forced to lose they’re memory. Again, not saying that it doesn’t make him a yandere but damn. I would be frustrated too.
The “You want to **** 2B” is still weak evidence. You can literally put any 4 letter verb in there and it would make sense (well, not any word but I’m proving a point by being over the top). And as you said with the Japanese point of view, you can insert any verb regardless of letter count. This just proves the point that you can interpret their relationship any way you want. I also know there was a line where 9S goes “We’re closer than family but lovers is too distant.” Again up to interpretation. And before anyone jumps their keyboards and saying “WHAT DO YOU MEAN UP TO INTERPRETATION?! HE CLEARLY MEANS SOULMATES.” I want to say that not everyone view romantic relationships as the “ultimate relationship”. Some people sees friendship to be stronger that romantic relationships. Not everyone have the same point of view.
There’s fucking over 20 endings?! What the fuck bro. I thought there was only 6 endings. And I don’t give a shit if there’s only four endings that are canon. It’s still a fact that there’s multiple endings. Multiple endings muddle the water if a character is a yandere or not. Hence why Julie and I dislike being asked to review otome games or visual novels.
Well, point one and two weigh more heavily than point three. So 9S will come out as 3/5 or 2/5 on the yandere scale still. He’s still a yandere but not a perfect one.
And I’ll be frank with everyone right now, I’m 90% sure I will never finished Nier. I’m not kidding when I say it’s physically taxing for me to play this game. I get actual motion sickness from playing it and throw up. No other game make me feel this bad. And yes, I have played around with the settings to make a better experience but nothing I do works. I think it’s the color scheme the game uses. It’s mostly bright with lots of whites, greys, and blacks. Areas with more colors I can handle. But the desert area? I vomited twice and almost fainted. Doesn’t help I was lost in the desert for a long ass time. The TV I use to play it is the smallest thing... like the tiny ones you use back in early 2000′s growing up since the family™ doesn’t allow me to use the flat screen. I could watch a play through but I also have the game right next to me... I end up in a loop of “I’ll just watch” > “I want to play” > “I’m sick”.
Yes, I am complaining right now but I’m trying clearly state that I won’t be able to completely play the game (anytime soon unless I get my own place). It’s too much a pain to try and play, even if the game is beautiful. I know it is. Hell, it’s my fucking wet dream since practically everyone has white hair. And this all comes full circle to: just tell us the spoilers if you want to counter our post. Please. I beg.
