You know how in the movies in the deep woods when suddenly everything goes quiet, you know some supernatural shit is going down? I had the reverse experience on one of my favorite trails that I've been on with my dog a million times once, and I thought I was about to be abducted by faeries.

We were hiking about five miles in the woods, on our way back to my car, when I had a "you're being watched" feeling which was a novel experience, because I'm really not the kind of person that gets weirded out or fearful of the supernatural, nor have I ever in my life had my brain give me such a powerful 'we're in danger now, my guy' message. Let alone in a place I was so extremely comfortable, along with my collie.

Anyway, the birds who are always all over that part of the trail got VERY loud over the course of the next few minutes, and continued that way for a while. I swear I heard my name being called faintly, though I couldn't place from where.

I put Sorin back on his long leash to keep him from exploring like I normally let him do, and fucking booked it at a rapid clip. I realize it sounds wild, and was probably my imagination finding patterns where there aren't any, but 🤷‍♂️ Eventually the noise settled down, but it was one of the most anxious moments of my entire life.
