Sunderland tram No. 37 in colour by Frederick McLean Via Flickr: A version of an old photograph *colourised and © by me (if you want to use it, at least credit me and link to this description!) of Sunderland Corporation Tramways (SCT) tram No. 37 showing a ‘Roker’ destination blind.
The original B&W version is here:- flic.kr/p/2kZthyJ
The photo reverse is signed by the photographer (and negative owner) A. D. Packer and is dated as being taken 4/9/53.
No. 37 was ex Manchester Corporation Tramways (MCT) 'Pilcher’ car No. 228 built as a fully enclosed car by MCT going into service Nov 1931 seating 22/40 and running on a 4-wheel Peckham P35 truck. It was bought by SCT in Jan 1947, going into service in the March unaltered apart from the livery, and withdrawn from service in Jan 1954. The parts of the Manchester tramways system that had not already been withdrawn or transferred to trolleybus/bus operation closed in Jan 1949. The parts of the Sunderland tramways system that had not already been withdrawn or transferred to bus operation closed in Oct 1954.
* My coloured images are more sketch or watercolour like than colour transparency or print like. They are an impression of that subject and period, rather than an accurate representation of how the image/subject actually looked when the photo was taken.
