blood & gold is [an attempt at] an apology. marius is making effort to insert his emotions into the story where he did not let it show or let himself feel before. he knows he's done everyone around him wrong; he admits to it immediately. marius knows he fucked up, you guys. he is not The Villain or even the only villain of the vampire chronicles.
