A Moment of Repose
Night had fallen and the group retreated to the safety of camp for much needed rest. The newest addition, Kar’niss, was no where to be seen at first. That is until Tav noticed movement in a nearby cluster of trees, drawing them toward the source of the rustling. They’d approach and crane their head up to see the drider busy at work, spinning a nest of thick silk webbing that spanned from tree to tree like an over-sized hammock. Tav said nothing for a time just watching on in fascination. Kar’niss’ keen sense of hearing soon alerted him to the unexpected audience, his legs tapping against the branches to turn his large body around. He’d lean over and peer at Tav below, watching him with some level of expectation. When Tav motioned for Kar’niss to come down the drider grunted with some annoyance but complied, skittering down the tree with his nimble legs. He settled in front of Tav, his arms crossed tight to his chest, an air of impatience around the anxious creature.
“The tent is too small for us. It falls over when we turn around, we do not like it,” he’d explain. “We—I do not understand why you spared us at Moonrise. We are still confused. Our Queen, She is...silent, She no longer speaks to us. True Soul claims Majesty has abandoned us...but it cannot be true. This must be a test of Her will. If we must travel with you then we will do so. If we prove ourselves loyal, faithful, surely She will return to us.”
What will Tav say?
"I'm sorry Kar'niss but it's true; She's abandoned you."
"Don't think about the Absolute. You're free now, doesn't that make you happy?"
"You whine a lot. Be grateful we scraped you from the cobblestones."
"We spared you because we wanted to help you."
"Will you be comfortable in the trees? We can try to find a bigger tent."
Leave.
