You know. I’ve been thinking a lot since the Bastet release. About Angela and Jack’s interactions, about Jack’s throwaway lines. And I think one of the things I like most about it, going back to reread it- the small things:

Is that Jack never, really lost himself after Zurich. 

He’s still a soldier, still trudging forward- and we DO see some of that focused edge in the “Hero” short, but we’re also given a man who still has a sense of humor. Someone who still can function from day to day, (if with a little help.) Someone who remembers his friends, who never gave up on them (Ana, and now Gabe- you can tell he refuses to think the worst of him even now.)

And somewhere in all of that, is this quiet eternal protector and optimist. Taking that into context and looking at his lines. You’re looking a commander who is just trying to protect people, who is tired of so much.

but still, he keeps pushing forward.

We’re given to believe that Jack is after revenge, but how do we know this? Is this truly what he’s after? Everything he’s attacked has been either Lumerico or Talon influenced. He’s repeatedly stopped to help people, despite his own hesitation- which speaks volumes about both good and bad of his mental state at the moment.

Is he a mess?

You betcha.

But at his core, is a guy trying to do the right thing.

Plus, the advantage of being a giant dork.
