Truly, WHY do you make me care about your dynamic during this arc just to go die together? I DIDN'T SHIP YOU TWO IDIOTS. I was quite happy in my corner, only being invested in one possible relationship (Hal and Bolaire), and that only because they forced my hand (with occasional jokes about Thaisha and Vaelus). Now, Mr. Mercer and Mr. Ward, you seem to have decided that it is fun to bicker pointedly, rather than casually, and I do not approve it, when yours is the suicide mission!

A Small Rant about Dracula: A Love Tale

I just know this will send a lot of people into a coma because I know a LOT of people really loved this movie...

I know I am a bit late to this train but whatever

I almost adored this movie

I loved how it reframed Dracula, not just as a bloodthirsty monster but as someone defined by grief and longing for his wife. That emotional core worked for me.

And I could gush on other quieter things like the religious questioning, the costume designs, the dialogue, the actor and actresses commitment to their roles, the sheer melodrama of it all, honestly, I was completely on board.

But I am still seething over the ending.

Not because Dracula’s repentance didn’t make sense, it did. In fact, it was a beautiful full-circle moment. It reinforced idea that he always had some belief in God, buried under centuries of spite and grief over Elizabeth, rather than being some grumpy Athiest. It is compelling because he doesnt reject the notion of God, but rather that God was ever good.

Therefore, his realization, that a face isn’t a person, that he can’t resurrect love by projecting it onto someone else, is genuinely powerful. Because he isn't good either. He was effectively become the cruel God tormenting others just like he was tormented.

But that’s exactly why the ending falls apart for me.

The entire climax hinges on him effectively, forcing a woman who does not know him, does not love him, and does not share that past to give up her life for his redemption. That’s selfishness. Van Helsing says it in some dialogue, so even the film acknowledges it’s selfish… which makes what comes next even more frustrating.

Mina being upset when he dies made me irrationally angry. It completely undercuts the point.

If anything, I would have expected his death to free her, to free all the women he dragged into his obsession. That would have reinforced the idea that his love, twisted as it became, was something they all suffered under.

Instead, she just… continues. Sitting in their bed crying over the dust particles of her abuser. Still emotionally tethered to him. Still, in a sense, performing the role of his lost wife.

And that feels like such a disservice not only to her autonomy but to her actual husband, who literally came to save her. It reframes her less as a victim and more as an extension of Dracula’s narrative, which is exactly what the film seemed to be critiquing.

And don’t even get me started on the “he didn’t use the perfume” angle. That doesn’t make it better. It just makes the dynamic murkier in a way that the story doesn’t earn.

What really gets me is that there’s a version of this story that works. You can see it in similar narratives where the female lead has agency, where her internal conflict actually means something. Where choosing darkness (or rejecting it) says something about her, not just about him.

Here, Mina just feels… moved around. Like a prop in someone else’s tragedy. And that’s what makes the ending so frustrating because the film almost understood its own themes and then backed away from them at the last second.

Every time I see that post that's like "every organization of sufficient size has a middle aged woman named something like Janet without whom the entire institution would collapse" I do sigh a little

But as someone who fills half of the Janet role in the organization I work for. In my experience it's not that Janet has knowledge other people are not exposed to.

Can I just say,

There was this show

Called Monster Allergy

And it had no right to be so good???

The progressions of the two MCs was solid and when one of the parents gave their ability to see monsters to the FL, said parent was still a badass and could just tell when someone was a monster thus leading to a very important story line about accusing someone of being a 'monster' with no real proof?

Loved the show, ima have to binged it again because I need a comfort show in prep for the final act of Arcane

I never talk about myself in a personal manner on here but I’m too happy to not talk about it. But, I am finally making a recovery with my hypersexuality!

For years, it was unnoticeable for me as I didn’t even know what it was and never talked about my issues with anyone as I thought what I was experiencing was normal. But until mid to late last year, I had finally come to terms of my problems and discovered what it was. And I have been struggling with it since then but I have been noticing for the last weeks, I was making progress. That my intrusive thoughts are slowly coming to a stop and my actions are becoming less distressful for me.

I’m sure no one else really cares about it, but I’m so happy to see what was a toxic, damaging, dangerous, and destructive behavior is starting to become a faded memory. That what was slowly becoming worse is starting to become better and less of an issue. My hope is I make a full recovery and I can finally be at peace with my past and I can fully come what happened wasn’t my fault, that I was a victim. 🥺

do some people just not understand multiple genre/genre bending bands? like i really don’t think music has to fit into one box.

i constantly see the argument that sleep token (and plenty of other bands) is “not metal, not rock” well it is. but it’s also alternative, r&b, pop, hip pop etc. AND THATS SO COOL!!!

ticking so many boxes in terms of genres means so many different people can enjoy one band, despite possibly having vastly different tastes in music. i know the metal/rock scene is notoriously known for gate keeping what does and doesn’t fit but can’t y’all just accept music for what it is? not everything needs to be cookie cutter
