Dragon Age 100

First entry in my Dragon Age 100 quest.

Beginning

Everything before had seemed like an ending for Alim. His mother constructed traps continuously and meticulously, so that every action and every feeling had to be measured before expression in case it brought an end to something good. Her mood, her minute bits of generosity, the shreds of affections she’d share in the rare times when nothing else pulled at her attention: all of it conditional. All of it a hair trigger from collapsing.  Then of course there was the day when she discovered his magic. Then even the endings were over and he was out on the streets of Denerim.  Until, months later, a templar grabbed him. She’d brought him back to the Chantry where a Sister had fussed over him. She’d offered food and given him a bath. Then he’d had a warm bed, and in the morning, a trip to a place that she promised he’d never have to leave again. That, finally, when Alim reflected on it years later, looked like a beginning.
