I see this A LOT on the fantasywriting subreddit. People either go full ham replacing /everything/ with their fantasy words for no good reason and with no explanation, or they drop pages and pages of boring and horrible textbook-like explanations on you before you even meet a character.

i said to a friend on this subject “you can do this in a concise manner by being like ‘this is a karasit tree, which is basically a pine and a birch tree mixed together’” and then maybe add some unique details to what this tree looks like more specificaly instead of rattling on with page upon page of filler just so you can get your reader to see what the fuck you’re talking about. it loses interest SO QUICKLY
