A Tiny Flame || James & Lily
Lily looked at the little bottle in her hands that contained a small inextinguishable flame. She rolled the glass in her fingers watching the fire dance within and marveled a little at it. She knew the meaning Evan meant to send when he gave the gift, and perhaps it would have been smarter just to part with it, but she couldn't help but be a bit enthralled by magic.
She sat up a little straighter in the window nook she had been lounging in. This particular nook was a favorite as it was close to the Gryffindor Tower and partially hidden so unless someone passing had a need to look at that window she would go unnoticed. It was private but not completely cut off from the world. Lily didn't feel like being cut off from the bustle of the castle, at least since what had happened. Lily frowned as she slowly turned the bottle making the flame dance and letting it hypnotize her slightly and dull out the noises of her housemates making their way upstairs to the Fat Lady's portrait.
She had seen all three of her attackers since leaving the hospital wing and she couldn't really say she was proud of handling them. She felt a need to try to lash back at them, make them think they hadn't gotten to her. Instead she felt she came off as some child throwing a tantrum in front of them, and she had to admit that it was embarrassing. She was at a loss for what to do, and not having anyone to talk to made it that much harder. She'd already said too much to Remus and she regretted it, worried that any of the three Slytherin would find out and use it as an excuse to hurt her or Rem more.
Lily tried to focus on the fire again. It was funny, and encouraging, that she could look at this gift and despite knowing it's ill will take a bit of comfort from it. She had turned it into a positive rather than a negative. A flame trapped in a bottle wouldn't be the only metaphor she could relate to her life, but the fact that it came from someone who wished her harm only gave her more hope that she could get past this event and come out stronger in the end.
