hello! do you have any advice for summarising stuff?? I'm not so well at it

hiya! yes i may have some tips. my bio teacher made us do summaries all the time and it was The Worst.

it depends on if your teacher is okay with sentences ripped straight from the book, or if they want you to rephrase, but i always went through with a highlighter. every single definition or bolded phrase was included in my summaries.

as i go through, i usually highlight every main idea, definition, bolded phrase, whatever i thought was important. often times, topic sentences and headers can be really good for figuring that out. then, i would literally copy word for word what i’d highlighted. 

however, if ur teacher expects you to restate things, i’d make a bullet-pointed list of the ideas you highlighted and then just go down the list writing a sentence for each thing based on what you remember from the text.
