Book #224 - The Heartbreak Bakery by A. R. Capetta
(I am very, very tempted to translate some of these recipies into a proper measuring system. You know, one that makes actual sense. Reading this made me hungry.)
From the blurb.... I hadn't expected this to be YA? Like, sue me, but I didn't see "17-year old employed baker" coming. I mean, good for Syd. But I had expected something else. Maybe I'd have more to say if it had been...
I liked the ending. I knew I would from the moment that the single strands of the (until that point) quite checklist-y plot started to come back and interweave. It was all going to come together in an overwhelming show of queer community and joy, and it did, and it was. Joyful. Queer. Community.
To me, as someone who already feels that he lives in a queer bubble, this is the Queer Bubble in book form. Which isn't criticism. It, again, felt kinda checklist-y sometimes, but... I mean, come on. The ending was worth it. Well worth it. This was the sweetest, queerest thing I got to read in a while. It was cozy wholesomeness and cute queer extravaganza and just... really sweet and nice.
Just... some delightful sugar. Read if in danger of losing hope.
