are they lovers? worse. they're everything to each other. 💖
in Cemetery Boys: Espíritu, Julian Diaz and Yadriel are finally together, but when Julian is marked by a curse that could turn him into a monster, their love is tested by the one thing Yadriel may not be able to save him from — himself.

Hello, LGBTQ commun I tee
This is propaganda to read the Sunbearer Trials duology starring Dezi and Marino, who are not even the main characters (Edit: HELLO??? I'm so dumb that I just. Forgot to add the art I made???? Anyway. I put it there now)
In honor of pride month 🏳️🌈 here are some queer recs (only books I’ve read and actually enjoyed)
Sci-fi:
the Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells - great aspec rep (aro, ace, agender) and lots of background queer characters (being queer is considered normal) and just a great book in general (Murderbot is the most character and it’s anti-capitalism)
Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao - features a lot of female rage and a poly relationship (also the main character is an utter badass)
the Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin - casually queer (trans background characters and poly relationship) but that’s not the focus of the book (still the story itself is sooo good)
Vicious by V.E. Schwab - ace (confirmed) & gay (idk whether confirmed or not) main character
(Projekt Hail Mary by Andy Weir - not necessarily queer but there’s no romance and one of the main characters is considered queer for humans (I’m kind of cheating, sorry))
Fantasy:
the Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon - great wlw romance and more queer characters, also the worldbuilding is top notch (and there are dragons!)
Carry On (Simon Snow Series) by Rainbow Rowell - kinda like gay Harry Potter fanfiction but in better (also failed chosen one) (it’s silly and cute and just a perfect read for when you’re feeling down)
Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune - mlm romance, the character development is great and it’s a perfect mix of emotional and funny (everyone loves the house in the cerulean sea but I honestly think this one’s better)
She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan - this one‘s about a genderqueer, totally badass main character who ends up in a lesbian (kinda) relationship
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo - i think we‘ve all heard of it, it’s fantastic!
the Atlas Six by Olivie Blake - everyone’s some form of queer and it really shows, it’s also a critique on capitalism/elitism (really fun and chaotic)
the Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Horror - wlw romance, feminism, sisterhood and witches (if that doesn’t catch you idk what does but trust me it’s just so good)
Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas - nice story about a trans teen with a cute mlm romance and ghosts
Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron - it’s a sapphic retelling of Cinderella with feminism and rebellion

just finished reading celestial monsters!
totally didn't cry
anyways.everyones favorite birb boy
the sunbearer duology where
the antagonistic characters are lgbtq+ and despite antagonism, identities & pronouns are respected
the entire world built has lgbtq+ identities and genders and disabled characters & it doesnt become the primary reason characters don't get along or don’t fit in.
girls are tall & strong; hot & mean
Spanish words are interspersed with English.
even the bullies are angry that the ability to utilise sign language for a deaf person is unavailable because reading lips is very taxing and challenging
boys are nervous, boys cook.
adoption (his)stories that aren't necessarily joyful or "happily received"
abusive characters that are women and not the angry man trope
abuse storylines but not the wrong overused statement: "but that's your relative..."
there's probably more i can' think of right now add some in the comments if you wish.
Queer books I would like to see adapted with the same level of care as Heated Rivalry. Manifesting this for myself.
Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas - this would work for me either as movie or a dead boy detectives-eque series. I can picture how vibrant and beautiful everything would be. And I think the Dead Boy Detective style of transitions, the colors, and sense of humor would truly work here. ( also rip Dead Boy Detectives, i'll never forgive Netflix for cancelling you. What we could have fucking had.)
Basically, Casey Mcquiston's entire body of work. The Pairing can be a very lovely and devastating travel rom com movie and One Last Stop would be a great show with specific episodes for each of the characters and their respective love stories. We could get flashbacks to August's uncle and Jane's life too. I Kissed Shara Wheeler would be a teen treasure hunt movie a la Paper Towns but better and with a killer soundtrack.
Monk and Robot series by Becky Chambers - pls this would kill as a cozy animated series. Mosscap just dropping wisdom off to us every episode as we learn with Dex. Soft and soothing emotional lessons, and there could be illustrated tea recipes at the end of each episode.
Green Creek Series by TJ Klune - This is what they should have adapted instead of trying to make a Teen Wolf Movie or new Teen wolf shows. There is enough source material for several seasons and it is so angsty. Yes, it might be a little difficult for the audience to switch over to new main characters every once in a while but it also means everyone's faves get a chance to shine. I want this so much. Pls.
The Darkness outside us by Eliot Schrefer. This book made me sob when I first read it. I know it's a lot to put into a movie but I think that's the best format. Especially, because of the twists. I think each iteration of the pair would be more significant in a movie. But I can be persuaded. I just think this story has so much to teach us about life and how we are living it right now. Plus it's so much wrapped up in one. It's space, it's gay, it's devastating, it's inspiring, it's cosmic and body horror, it's science fiction, it's thriller, it's commentary on Nationalism and capitalism, love and personhood. It is literally everything to me.
All for the Game Series by Nora Sakovic. Look, we are realistically never going to get this. It's so insane but wouldn't it be wild if we did? There's more discourse about it now because it is tangentially related to Heated rivalry being a queer sports story. I would want it to be a show, at least Neil's trilogy. Then maybe Jean's books would be movies because they are happening simultaneously? Haven't really thought about that yet. People would have to get really cool with complex and remorseless characters. I don't know if I could take people slandering them even though they literally murder people. But they are my boys and girls! And I strongly believe that it would technically be historical fiction like Heated Rivalry. This is the early 200s ya'll. Neil is wearing the jorts and bandanna combo and Andrew is buying him nokia flip phone.
Carry On Series by Rainbow Rowell. Could we even get this made without the terf shutting it down? I am truly unsure. But it would be awesome if we could. It's one of my favorite found family book series ever. I need to see the rosebud boy smiling. I need to see competent af Penny who also has a little breakdown. I need to see Baz looking fabulous. I need to see Agatha kiss a girl. This could be either a triology of movies or a 3 season situation. If it was a show I would love an exploration on more of vampire lore, Agatha and Shepard's characters, and the situation between Simon's mom and the mage.
