Adrian glances to Gordon, but does so. With surprisingly little effort, Alyx tugs him up onto the platform by the train tracks.

“If you follow the tracks that way, you’ll get to City 17. Just keep your head low and ask for Barney.”

“Wait-” The look Alyx gives him manages to shut him up.

“... just take this, at least. You’ll be heading back into antlion territory.” 

Gordon reaches up to give him the bugbait. Adrian takes it with the same baffled and vaguely scared expression they’ve had throughout this whole encounter. 

Alyx continues talking, and Gordon signs some things in return, but Adrian catches none of it. Eventually, with one last worried glance, Gordon follows Alyx’s lead down the hall and out of sight. Adrian is alone.

“Gordon you-“ She doesn’t even get the sentence out before she notices the person trailing behind him, and levels her gun on their head. Gordon, luckily, manages to throw up an arm before she fires.

“What are you doing?”

“Alyx, this is Adrian. They aren’t a threat, I promise.”

“… sure. If you say so,” She says, lowering her gun as she stands back up and looks around.

“Look, we don’t have time for this. My dad’s up there somewhere, and I don’t know how much time we have to get to him.”

Gordon nods. “I’ll take care of this. I need you to get Adrian somewhere safe.”

Adrian looks both startled and confused, glancing from Gordon to Alyx.

“No way. I trust you, Gordon, but I can’t just sit back and escort your buddy back to safety while Breen does who knows what with my dad.”

“I can come with?”

Alyx jumps a little at the sound of their voice, and Adrian shuts their mouth.

“No, you’re still recovering from the surgery and everything that happened on Xen. It’s too dangerous.”

“We don’t have time for this. Adrian, give me your hand.”

Across the gap and working away at a Combine console is Alyx Vance.

Gordon goes to sign a greeting, but Alyx doesn’t notice him before she turns and takes off. Adrian stays silent, ducked halfway behind Gordon. Gordon jumps down into the gap to follow, and eventually Alyx takes notice, leaning down to talk to them.
