As I've started taking German classes and have done quite a few lessons by now, I think posting vocab lists could do great.

Hello lovely people! Here are my resources for the A1 German challenge!.

Resources:

1. Duolingo  2. German Grammar Drills by Ed Swick (book) 3. Nico’s Weg by DW (online course) 4. Anki (premade flashcards) 5. Quizlet (my own flashcards) 6. 10 hours of online teaching 7. Homework given by online teacher (probs 3-6 hours for every lesson)

Explanation:

So, with language learning your ability is generally divided into 4 key skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Ideally, you want about equal abilities in all four, but the passive skills (reading and listening) are generally easier than the active skills (writing and speaking). 

My resources are all aimed at being good all round for learning German, but they each focus more on one particular aspect, so I’’ divide them that way.

Reading:

Writing:

-Quizlet -German Grammar Drills -Homework

Listening:

-Nicos Weg

Speaking:

-German lessons

You might have noticed some... disparities among the amount of resources for each skill. I probably spend the most time practising reading and writing, since that’s easier by myself, but I’d say the quality of the listening and speaking resources are good enough that I only need them (at the moment). I might expand, but at the moment this is more than enough to be getting on with!

If you want, I can make a post explaining exactly how I use each resource (since it’s not always the obvious way) and maybe some links to my flashcard lists, but this is already a long enough post. Hope you have a good day!

German A1 Challenge

With my A1 exam in only slightly over two months, I have to study! I’m filming a vlog today (which will probably be out either this Friday or the next) and in it I’m going over my goals for a day of study during the halfterm. 

My main language goals for today are:

1. Complete my daily limit of Anki cards (35 new, 65 learning, 100 in total, yikes!) 2. Do a full module of Nico’s Weg (hopefully two) 3.  Have my first online German lesson (!!!) 4. Do at least 10 minutes of Duolingo.

I’ve got some other stuff to do (clear my room, go for a run, homework etc) but I want to really get ahead with my German. It needs to be watertight before the exam, because I don’t think I can retake it before I need to apply for the visa. Wish me luck
