Isn’t it fucking weird that Holly is given a compass that works Henry’s mind and we’re expected to believe that?? There can’t be no north there just scrambled up memories leading into each other!! His mind isn’t a real place like I’m so done with this show. Dustin for the past four seasons have mentioned wonky compasses and how a stronger electromagnetic field can tamper with it. The cave on Max’s map is located up north aka truth north but we see for a brief moment the compass is wonky. She wasn’t led to true north = memory. Who knows if that’s even Max ? She could have split personality and what we’re seeing could be Madmax. A theory by my friend and of course I’m procrastinating working on my part but here’s their thread.
Anyway what’s been getting on my fucking nerves is the time inconsistency throughout the show but specifically since season3 (I’ve also been procrastinating on posting on this szn is fake but wtv). We jump one year from the Russians opening the gate which was June 28, 1984 during the events of s2. But six months after December 15 1985 is June 15, 1985. Which makes sense that considering that the T.V guide edition El is seen reading in the 3X01 scene is from the June 15-21 edition. Funny how the June 22-28 edition had Nancy Reagan on the cover (iykyk). Also Mike is holding a comic with a street date for July-August, Dustin transformer toy from ‘86, M11 red m&m's, Karen’s I just died in your Arms sequence (song came out in ‘86), and whole bunch of stupid anachronisms. This timeline, June 15, 1985 makes sense because I seriously don’t buy the Russian plot line it’s bullshit (i know no one does I’m not discovering anything new but we moved on way too quick i fear). I mean people think shit went wrong when Nancy shot the exotic matter (it actually started at s3, THREE to be exact). Oh my god i swear that wormhole plotline is so stupid. If they’re time traveling it’s going to be through memories. Totally not saying this because I hate physics with my entire being. Anyway none of it is realistic I mean come on a underground bunker built conspicuously without the US govt blowing their cover and getting away with it at the HEIGHT of the cold war? Hilarious really! Then you have the post office not intercepting Joyce package from the mother land with Soviet mailing seals like huh? How the hell did they get her address? And her having forty thousand but couldn’t buy Jon a new car? Also why couldn’t Jon drive Joyce’s car since she worked from home. Then Mike and Murray coming to Lenora Hills but not bumping into eachother? I doubt they would have separate flights honestly.
Then you have the stupid three months title card at the S3 epilogue no date just like the Nov 6 title card in s5. Again, we’re supposed to buy it’s summer but the group is still in summer clothing and the season doesn’t even match it being fall. Look at s2 October vs S3 October a very stark difference. Rarely do I hear anyone talk about how odd the epilogue for this season and it bothers me because I feel like maybe I’m insane for it but whatever. Also no mention of the party bringing up highschool?? They just started their first three months of HS together which is a big deal but no mention of it. Sidenote the lack of Bob’s funeral/grave is crazy to me. In The Rise of Hellfire comic there’s a page where it says Fall 1985: first day of school but no exact date. Yes, in America first day of school starts mid-August but weird as fuck they don’t give us a date. Also it shouldn’t be fall because August is the last summer in the Northern hemisphere. Then Mike moping about Willel not being there and it’s like Billy must’ve hit your head pretty hard because y’all did go to school for three months before they moved to Lenora Hills aka The Lenore Trope aka Real HNL Silo (credits to @/greenfiend and whoever found that anagram). Then the lack of pop. sign for that fake town and Hawkins.
We jump 185 days later per El’s letter in S4 which is wrong (wow do the DB love jumping time! ). I mean the first pg is weird already because there’s so much mention of time moving fast, emotions being the catalyst of that sort, and yadayada. I talk more about it in this post if you care to read it. Quick rundown but 185 days from October 4 1985 , if that three months TS was even real is approximately April 7 , 1986. But actually it’s 168 days from 10/4/85-3/21/86. In Lucas book, the events of s4 happen during April. His book ends when Max is visiting Billy’s grave which happens on April 7th yet in the show it happens on March 24. What the hell?? I haven’t read Dustin’s book but his book gets cut off on December 13, 1985. Two days shy from a year anniversary of the snowball dance which already has theories surrounding it being corrupted etc. Also in his book there is a play button dinkus between sections. I fear he’s not beating the time travel allegations. Especially with his invention the forever clock which wasn’t even invented till 1989. I feel it in bones that it will be relevant in the real ending we’re getting. Will saying it’s been a year when it’s been six months but who the fuck knows what year it is! I’m choosing to believe Lucas I don’t believe in coincidences Sinclair for now.
Lastly, let’s not forget the fuck ass eighteen month timeskip in S5 that I see everyone mention and it really grinds my gears. I seriously rip my edges out BECAUSE GUYS!! IT HASN’T BEEN 18 MO! It’s actually been 19 months! From March 29 1986 - November 3 1987 it’s literally nineteen months. Eighteen months would have S5 set in September. I don’t really buy S5 or trust the characters pov due to weather and time inconsistency and it’s just unrealiable all around. Buttt if we’re going with Lucas timeline of events with April 7 the day Dear Billy happened instead of March 24, five days from the seventh is April 12 (because five days from March 24 was March 29 where we left off). Eighteen months from April 12 1986 is October 12 1987. So huh maybe it has been a year Will!
