Last day of our 'a to z of blackpool' naturally bring us to 'Z' and obviously, we've gone for what we'd consider, in our very biased opinion, the best zoo in the country, Blackpool zoo! A relatively new zoo having only opening in 1972, is mega popular with locals snd tourists alike. We rate it so highly it features in our blog 'top 5 things to do in blackpool' https://insiderblackpool.com/blog-2/ The zoo is located outside the town by is beside emglands best park 'stanley park' and also 'Lancashire biggest little village'... the model village. Why not spend a day away from the front to experience them all? Second to last letter..... and we're on to 'Y' for which, we've decided to give a little publicity to a new bar opening in Blackpool (well, we say new, perhaps 'reinvented' is a better word). 'Y' for "Yellow Submarine Bar'. This bar which is opening tonight is the first beatles themed bar in Blackpool and looks amazing! We're sure its going to be a big success and wish it and the owner @hamish howitt all the best will in the world. Its great to see investment in Blackpool especially when its small independents, make sure you check it out on your next trip to Blackpool or if local, into south shore. Day 24 and we're onto the latter 'X'..... which is probably the toughest we've had. If they'd filmed Star Wars in Blackpool and left behind a full scale 'X wing fighter' we'd be laughing but alas.... no. As such, we've gone for .....'X' for 'Xmas'!! Blackpool as a town goes into semi-hibernation at the end of the season but does get a mini boost around Xmas time due to the brilliant, 'Turkey and Tinsel' events hosted by the hotels and also, loads of works Xmas parties filling the town! When we first started this page, we posted about how good it would be to have a Xmas market in Blackpool, to provide a boost for the tourism and hospitality sectors outside the summer season, we still think it would be a good idea! Cedar Square is primed as a location for it, down Church Street, into the Winter Gardens, down Birley Street and using Abingdon Street Market. Would you come to a Xmas market in Blackpool? ...or could you not resist the lure of the massive market in Manchester? Day 23 and we're on to the letter 'W'. ....what else could we pick for todays letter than the iconic, Winter Gardens. Opening in 1878, the complex includes a theatre, ballroom and conference facilities (which are currently being enhanced!!). The building is grade 2 listed and hosts numerous events throughout the year drawing loads of people to the town who otherwise, probably wouldn't have come. The site has hosted numerous stars, last we saw was Bob Dylan a few years back but anyone who is anyone has more than likely played here! Who is the biggest star you've seen at the winter gardens? Day 22 brings to us the letter 'V'. This was another hard one, the one which springs to mind is 'Valhalla' (or however you spell it.... defo starts with a'V' though) :-) ...but... we don't really want to be too Pleasure Beach centric, they form a major part of the town but there is soooo much more to Blackpool that just rides....... so we've gone for...... 'V' for 'Vintage'.... as in vintage trams. World renowned, Blackpool tramway dates back all the way to 1885 and is one of the oldest in the world!! The trams run 11 miles along the seafront all the way to Fleetwood and you can still catch early 'heritage trams' at specific time and locations. 'Tram sunday' is an event which runs each year and showcases heritage transport on the fylde coast.... definitely worth checking out next year one the virus thing is over!! Tomorrows letter is 'W'. Happy Sunday everyone! Hope you've all been having fabulous weekend! Day 20 already..... how time flys when you spend much of it thinking of things to do with Blackpool that start with each letter of the alphabet :-) Today brings to us the letter 'T' which as some of you have suggested in comments yesterday on insta and facey........ cant really be anything other than....... 'The Tower'. Probably needs little introduction, world famous landmark and much better than the Eiffel Tower as it actually functions as more than just something to look at!! The tower is feature in out first blog 'Top things to do in Blackpool'. https://insiderblackpool.com/blog-2/ Standing tall since 1891, the Tower really is the pride of the town. Whilst originally a lot of the local population were sceptical / down right against the tower being built when proposed, it is now loved by the town and nation as a whole (ok, you can probably find some exceptions to that.... probably people from Preston though) ;-) Tomorrows letter is the hardest we've had yet, what do you think could be used to represent the latter 'U'?? Day 18 and we are on to the letter 'R'.... which we did have a couple of options for but have gone for 'roller coaster'. The Pleasure Beach is fab, an absolutely brilliant day out and arguably, the jet in the crown of the pleasure beach crown..... (contentious I know :)..... is the Big One (formally Pepsi Max Big one). Opening in 1994, the ride was for 2 years the highest and steepest roller coaster in the world! Its pretty scary but fantastically enjoyable too! Have you been on it? Day 17 and we're on with the toughest yet.... 'Q'....we did think of going for highlighting the vibrate LGBT scene Blackpool hosts.... which is pretty amazing and draws people in from all over the country and adds so much to Blackpool both in terms of capital and also culturally ... however, we couldn't decide if the term would be deemed derogatory to some so felt best 'play it safe' and have gone for........ 'Queens Promenade' ...... which is no where near as interesting! Located north of the town on the front (Bispham) its an area of the promenade which plays host to the 'best' illuminations, the tableaux! Fish and chip and walk past these is a must for anyone!
