I think he had suspicions seeing how intimately rin and the reader behave at dinner and also around the house. rin gives absolutely 0 fucks in this timeline and was socialized so wrong that he is kinda unrepentant about acting like a couple with her AFLJDSKDJS although she has experienced so much victim blaming in her life that she's hesitant to do it. regardless, they tend to behave very intimately at home and fail to hide it.

at first sae thinks it's a purely sexual thing (he believes that incest is a crime of sexual violence that he committed, even though he really didn't). he's angry that rin has "hurt you", but when he sees the two of you kissing each other in a private moment, it's so tender that it's painfully obvious that you two are in actual, romantic love.

and sae is like- SO broken by this? the only thing he can think is that he could have had this with you. he could have treated you like how rin does. he did the right thing by leaving you, but it feels like he's been punished for it. he feels like he's been punished for doing a lot of the right things in general (doing what's best for rin and earning himself his hatred, for example; plus the general eldest sibling experience of doing things right and being treated more harshly for it than your younger siblings ever would), but this is probably the worst instance of it. because he really, genuinely loved you in an innocent way, and he was forced to let that go - only to be replaced by someone else.

so yeah that's what that reveal is like 😭
