A fascinating ‘Fresh’ find is this 2,500 year old Greek #Aryballos : made by the Corinthian Greeks, the distinct spherical form is decorated in a brown/black silhouetted 'Black Figure' technique with incised details, including a central Dove surrounded by Griffins, a ‘ray’ border to the neck and 'Z' band to the rim, the rounded base with concentric circles. Circa 600-550 BC These curious vessels were oil containers, and therefore probably used by athletes and bathers at the gymnasium - exercise & bathing was a favourite pastime. The handle allowed them to be suspended from the wrist by a small cord. Provenance; from an old Australian collection, old collection label 'AA-41' (1941?).
