a moment of weakness

20. My muse is sick and continues daily routine even though they seem on the verge of passing out.

(gonna have to go AU with this one, for obvious reasons)

The away mission had been anything but routine. Working directly with Section 31 to assist in relocating the seventy-three ancient cryotubes that housed one Khan Noonien Singh and his crew of the Botany Bay, John had had to endure being far too close for comfort.

He'd thought himself beyond their purview, but as the day wore on, John realized he wasn't far enough away from the source. And as the crew was leaving to head back to Enterprise, following the relocation, something small and seemingly innocent happened.

He bumped against a console, palm flat against the surface. And while John wasn't a clumsy man, he glared daggers at the 31 Tech that had damned near run him down in his haste.

If only he knew.

It started off with a dry, itchy cough. Something that John hadn't been plagued with for damned near three hundred years. He continued working his normal shifts, ignoring that and the ache in his bones. Whatever was going on, it felt like he was coming down with a case of the flu.

Except John didn't get sick. He wasn't supposed to. And he could only think of one place to have picked it up. The Section 31 outpost. Great. Perfect. Just what he needed.

John continued on, pushing himself until he damned near collapsed, exhausted in a way he hadn't been in a very, very long time. He'd worked a double-shift, covering some of his crew while they recovered from their own illness and as he made his way past Medical, toward his own quarters, John fought off the dizziness, pausing to lean against the wall.

...And when he woke up, he was laying on the floor just beyond the double doors.
