Association of Neurosurgeons to Share Scientific Findings in Vancouver
One of the youngest doctors to earn board certification in his specialty, Dr. Ilyas Munshi is an experienced neurosurgeon in Lafayette, Louisiana. To stay abreast of the latest innovations, Dr. Ilyas Munshi is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS).
Founded in 1931 and first named after Harvey Cushing (a pioneer who greatly reduced the incidence of mortality during brain surgery), the AANS will present its yearly scientific meeting from April 17-21, 2021, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Subtitled Neurosurgery United: Stronger Together, the gathering has designated nine four- or five-star hotels for attendees.
Some 200 presentations and 24 courses will let participants earn up to 45.5 hours of continuing medical education. In addition to various diseases of the brain and spine, sessions will cover such topics as the safe use of opioids, understanding how sports injuries affect the spine, and concepts of pediatric care.
The association is now soliciting abstracts of research projects. Proposals will be evaluated anonymously by neurosurgeons in the relevant subspecialties, and can be presented orally, via an e-poster, or both. They must reach the AANS by October 5, 2020. Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified late in December.

Our Anzac Day Swim Set
On Anzac Day (or thereabouts) I usually use an Anzac theme and tell some stories between the sets. This year I used a selection of those who served as patrons of each set, so here it is, mind the step: 5*600s on Anzac Day 1. A Look at the AANS Annual Scientific Meeting
Dr. Ilyas Munshi earned his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago before launching his career as a neurosurgeon. Since 2001, he has maintained a practice in Lafayette, Louisiana. Throughout his career, Dr. Ilyas Munshi has worked to improve his professional knowledge and skills as a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS). Founded in 1931, AANS is an educational and scientific organization that aims to advance the specialty of neurological surgery. Each year, AANS holds its Annual Scientific Meeting, a five-day event that brings together neurosurgeons, neurosurgery students and residents, nurses, and other medical professionals from around the globe. In 2019, the meeting was held April 13-17 in San Diego. The educational programming at the 2019 AANS Annual Scientific Meeting focused on the theme "The Science of Practice." Highlights of the event included Lunch-and-Learn seminars, research forums, and screenings of short films exploring the history of neurosurgery. The meeting also included presentations from featured speakers such as Dr. Howard Eisenberg of the University of Maryland, Dr. Linda M. Liau of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and Dr. Robert E. Harbaugh of Penn State Health. Prospective attendees can expect similar programming at the 2020 AANS Scientific Meeting, which will be held April 25-29 in Boston. Prior to the main meeting activities, AANS will hold a pre-course on brain mapping as well as the pre-meeting Sonntag Symposium and Muraszko Timmons Symposium. Registration for all activities opens on November 2019, and early-bird discounts are offered through January 6, 2020. More information, including registration pricing and housing details, is available at www.aans.org.
