✧ The first time Aaravos saw you clutching your abdomen, groaning and whimpering in pain, he instantly knew the cause was menstrual pain.

✧ Of course he's mature about it, neither bothered nor disgusted. To him, it's just as natural and necessary as any other process in life. Not only that, but he's also had five thousand years to "ponder the deepest mysteries of the universe," and has most definitely met lots of mortals; he pretty much knows everything about menstruation, from cramps to hormonal changes, so it's hardly unpredictable or new to him.

✧ Speaking of hormonal changes, he doesn't get mad or lash out when you're having mood swings. If you're angry, he's silent and lets you vent, until you're suddenly sad the next moment, and he just calmly pulls you into his chest. At moments when you get too worked up though, he leaves you be, to have time to yourself and cool off. Whatever your mood is, he knows that you're really just feeling bad and icky, in need of comfort, so he always offers you your favorite heating pad: his hands.

✧ He burns nowhere near as brightly as he once did, so instead he settled for using Sun magic to raise his temperature for you. Whenever you're having bad cramps, he pulls you into his lap—your back to his chest—and presses his hand against your tummy, rubbing it in soothing circular motions. The heat along with the massaging always does wonders for you, and Aaravos smiles as he feels you start to relax, pressing a kiss to the top of your head. He knows how much you adore his voice, too, so he recites poetry and stories of old until you fall asleep. <3

✧ Somehow he always seems to know the approximate dates of your cycle: when it may start, when it will stop, when you'll ovulate (😏), and repeat. Expect your necessities, warm baths, and something to intake that's also warm like a bowl of soup on the first day. If you want him to spoon-feed you, he smirks and lets out a light chuckle, obliging you because how could he not?

✧ He also uses the healing/medicinal properties of Earth magic, whether from his own connection or from plants (animals too maybe idk). If you get nausea during your period and have to vomit somewhere (like me 🥲), he rubs your back with a pained expression. It hurts him to see his lovely like this, but he's always there to help you through it.

✧ And there's no need for you to worry about his vengeful plans; he has all the time in the world, so don't think his vendetta will keep his loving, secure arms from being wrapped around you.

✧ Fallen or not, Aaravos is a caring partner, and he'll always make sure you, his little star, are alright. Especially during your time of the month. ❤︎₊ ⊹

listen, aaravos is SOOO attentive. he probably has your cycle memorized better than YOU. he's always prepared for when you're on your period, and will approach you about it a few days before it starts

aaravos is amazing when your on your period as he never undermines you, and while he doesn't relate to your experience he definitely sympathizes with you and supports you any way he can

as much as you want to rot in bed while you're on your period, aaravos will encourage you to be at least a little active. he might take you for calming walks where you won't run into others, or even just slow dance with you in the comfort of your own home while lofty music plays in the background

aaravos will run lavish baths for you om your period with bubbles and fancy soaps and anything your heart desires. he really does love pampering you at heart and will gladly sit at the edge of the tub and wash your hair or massage your scalp while you bathe and relax

the dimension he was trapped in contained nothing but the sky and a stretch of land. The landscape never changed or ended. Wherever he went, everything always looked the same. The only point of reference was the house, a perfect replica of the house he had lived in with his daughter many years before. And no matter how hard he tried to escape it, all roads always led to this house.

in this dimension, nothing changed, and nothing could be controlled. Always the same time of day, same season, same temperature. No rain, no wind, no snow. No real sun, no real stars.

he was the only living creature there. No birds or other animals. In the centuries he had spent here, he had never seen even the smallest fly. There were only a few plants that seemed to be frozen in time - always the same. They never withered, never lost their leaves, and when he picked one, a new one appeared in its place after some time. Identical one.

the magic in the prison kept him alive. The prison provided everything he needed. A garden with plants from which he could make his own dinner, running water, and access to a fire. Although he wasn't really hungry, sleepy, or cold. But he ate—the same thing over and over again every day; he slept—to stave off boredom; he lit a fire in the fireplace to keep warm—when his mind played tricks on him and he felt as if he were freezing.

every day was practically the same. And he always remained the same as the day he was imprisoned. The same hair, the same clothes... even if he tried to change something, cut his hair or alter his clothes, after a while, everything always returned to its original state. The same as the interior design of the house and its furnishings, which, no matter how much he vented his anger on it, always returned to its previous state.

because the purpose of the prison was to keep him alive, he didn't get sick (because there was nothing to even get sick with) and he couldn't hurt himself. And he tried a lot of things. Every wound, whether it was a paper cut or the fatal wounds he inflicted on himself during those worst moments... everything healed almost immediately. Even the pain was taken away from him.

there was only him. Alone with himself, his intrusive thoughts and his fragile psyche. Alone in a house that he had abandoned long ago, but here it still bore the marks of his old life and Leola's presence. Alone in a house that looked exactly as it had on the day his daughter was taken from him.

the only real difference was the huge mirror hanging on the wall in the room that had once served as his office. A mirror through which he sometimes saw Avizandum watching him, enjoying his suffering. A mirror that always looked at him as if mockingly and reminded him of the fact that on the other side, life went on. Without him.

escaping from prison was a salvation, but at the same time, his greatest punishment.

after centuries spent in an unchanging, constant environment, the collision with the real world was a shock to the body.

he was oversensitive. The outside world was full of stimuli he had forgotten about. The lights were too bright, the sounds too loud, the tastes and smells too intense. The water was too cold, the grass too prickly, the clothes too rough... it was always cold or unbearably hot.

he had become so unaccustomed to the touch of others that after regaining his freedom, physical contact was simply painful. The slightest touch caused his brain to tell his body to react as if he had been bandaged or electrocuted.

his entire body ached. As if he had just taken a spectacular fall from the very top of Storm Spire that even Viren would be proud of. He could feel every bone, every muscle, every tiny cell in his body... and everything radiated with pain so intense it sometimes took his breath away.

the first few weeks after his release were like a fight for survival. Constant migraines, insomnia, stomach problems, general weakness... He was frustratingly weak. He couldn't stand straight, and at times he fought to stay conscious.

magic didn't help. In prison, his magic was significantly limited. And after leaving, it returned with all its power and was as unstable as if he was using it for the first time. Although the muscles remembered how to cast spells, the body received them at least several times more intensely, which was not good in his condition.

he was overwhelmed. And so terribly tired. Weakness and centuries of isolation had caused him to catch all sorts of diseases like a baby in a nursery during the winter.

it was also frustrating that the world had changed... and he had been left behind for 300 years. People spoke dialects and languages ​​he didn't know. They used words he didn't understand. New cities and settlements sprang up. Those he remembered from his youth had long since disappeared. It was still the same world he had left. The same magic he had mastered. And yet everything was so different that he felt like a stranger in the place that had once been his beloved home.

but he had to go on. As much as he could. He had so many things to do. For Leola. And for Claudia.

How would Kazi/Aaravos react to an ocean primal being? (a spirit like entity that is connected to a primal source, a siren in her case) and that said being thinks lowly of elves because in their opinion their ancestors have sold their souls to the dragons millennia ago and that's why their entire kind is born with an arcanum. She says that being connected to a primal source to the point that your apperance is different from your ancestors' just means that you are a potential pet to them.

Aaravos, Kazi reacting to a condescending siren

Kazi is admittedly intimidated and quite cautious of the siren’s abilities, but they can’t help their scholar side coming out at her words

They know their facts and blurt out corrections in her words, visibly nervous but entirely sure of what they’re saying 

Unfortunately, all it takes is one icy glare to keep them quiet for the rest of the encounter, even though Kazi’s just burning at her biased perspective, desperate to point out inconsistencies (isn’t she also connected to a primal source?? And changing appearances are just the result of evolution–)

But it’s a very eye-opening experience later on, when they’re walking to class and overhear the way other elves talk about humans and compare it to how she was talking about elves

They can’t help but open the history books to see where the siren got her ideas from, wondering if her opinions are a one-off thing or if others think like her too - and if so, how did they come to those conclusions?

Aaravos 

Does not like it one bit

Aaravos hates prejudice and being looked down on–he’s had enough of that–but he gauges how powerful she is before deciding on how to respond - he may be an Archmage, but he’s not foolish; he knows when he’s beat (though, admittedly, that’s quite rare)

But he absolutely refuses to be seen as a dragon’s pet and can feel his blood boiling at her words, eyes narrowing as he sharply corrects her rather prejudiced views, regardless of her abilities

If only she could see just how much power he held over the dragons - the lengths the dragon king had to take to keep him contained, not even killed but held captive

He can barely comprehend her, and furthermore, why must she tell all this to him? What authority does she have, being a siren and not an elf herself?

If he concludes that he can beat her, then she’ll be out of his way soon enough and be sure he won’t feel one ounce of regret

Aaravos jealous hc

Aaravos has never been jealous before you come around, so it's a new feeling that overwhelms him and he's very bad at hiding it.

Perhaps you've found someone new to study magic with, and initially that thrills him!

It's only when he begins to take note of how much you're gone and with this other person that he starts to feel less than positive about them.

Initially he fears that perhaps he's sensing trouble from them, and just wants to protect you, but this other person has nothing he should be afraid of.

Still, it shows in little things. He frowns when he sees you with them, and makes a point of being quite close to you whenever they're watching.

Those bad feelings may manifest in little passive aggressive bits of magic, like a shock through his fingers if they try to shake hands or a singe to their clothes.

Once he figures out he's jealous he feels foolish, but he can't stop himself. You have a right to be with whoever you want, he just really wishes it was him more often.

He also gets pouty about it when no one is looking. And his ears get all twitchy when he pouts.

Is Aaravos Xadia's equivalent of Sauron, given his skill at manipulation and gift-giving?

Maybe so, anon. He’s absolutely got the beautiful look and the charming words going for him. Personally, I see Aaravos as a combination of Melkor, Elbereth, and Aulë--a godlike elf, indeed--as well as Sauron. 

I’m still holding out hope for him to get a bit of redemption, or at least a fuller understanding of his motives. That’s partly why I’m hoping there’s more gray or light sides to Aaravos. Elbereth is the Vala of the stars. Not only is Aaravos literally spangled with stars, but when the elves of Middle Earth awoke, it was night, and their eyes saw the stars first. It was their first light, and they love it best. To me, the star symbolism is the purest and best part of who Aaravos is.

Melkor wanted to rule the Valar. He craved power and control. But he also was capable of love. He was complicated, and he made bad choices, and they led him down dark paths--some of which were literally dark. And he left a terrible legacy for Middle Earth, which did include Sauron and all the trouble he caused as well. In one way, it’s the same as Aaravos and his dark magic legacy.

Aulë created the dwarves--stepping outside the Valar’s plan--but he did so out of love, and he showed remorse and accepted his punishment when he was called out for it. Because of his humility and love, the dwarves were allowed to live and become a full race of their own. Aaravos loves humans, and that love may extend more plot threads into the past as well as the future.

We don’t really know much about Aaravos’s past or his motives yet, so his character might not have much in common with these characters after all. It’s just what I see at this point. But there is definitely darkness in Aaravos, figuratively and literally, and like with most people, I want to believe that there’s light within him, too.
