It pisses me off when people are deliberately obtuse about how and why Jews are racialized.

People are not saying that "you're racialized because of your religion," no one is making this bullshit strawman argument that Jews of Color are "doubly racialized," it's not happening. Plain language: we are racialized as people of COMPLICATED MIXED ANCESTRY, summarized by the word "Jew" for convenience and because people don't usually have the words to explain it.

A Black Jew will be racialized as Black, yes. A Chinese Jew will be racialized as Chinese, and an Ashkenazi Jew (who isn't also mixed with something else) will be racialized as a part-Middle Eastern mixed person with a long history of living in Europe. THAT is how we're racialized: as a group with a unique genetic mix that no one can really define on top of "foreign" customs. The only people in the world with an even vaguely similar ethnic/quasi-ethnoreligious experience are the Romani, and I guarantee you no one is asking the average Romani if they have a high enough percentage of European blood or pale enough skin to be an oppressor before making them the victim of a hate crime.

Modern concepts of race don't apply to us because our situation is *quite literally unique in the world*. There is no other group in the same genetic or historical situation as Ashkenazi Jews; we deserve special consideration of our situation on a case-by-case basis. And honestly, being one of us makes you feel like the world is constantly gaslighting you.

I wish I could rip every fragment of Europe out of me like a weed, because it seems like that's the only way anyone would believe me.
