ANIMATION INSPIRATION WEEK: Everything Masaaki Yuasa has ever done (I've written about Yuasa many times before, but here's yet another rant about his greatness)

I got on the Yuasa train well after Mind Game had solidified his status as a genius. I didn't see the film until 2011, but when I finally did, it totally changed my perception of everything animation, and film in general, could be. I devoured everything else Yuasa had done, and I eagerly look forward to each new project his name is attached to. His work is unpredictable - he's always trying new genres, new techniques and new formats, with the only constants being the rejection of formula, an ambitious innovative approach to storytelling, and incredible animation. In short, he is everything I aspire to be as an artist! My two favorite works of his are still Mind Game (2004 feature & directorial debut) and Kemonozume (2006 TV series), but he has yet to make anything less than great. Every time I watch Yuasa, I come away with my mind freshly blown and completely inspired.
