Original Description:

The more I read about Xerxes, the more I think of him as this chill guy with the odd anger management issue who really just doesn't care. He's really smart and has good strategies but honestly he doesn't give a damn about adding Greece to the Persian Empire. It's all Mardonius' fault. :I Since there are no images of Mardonius anywhere I just based him off his appearance in a movie. XD He's been in on this every step of the way but hasn't made an appearance until now because I was obsessing over how to draw him. Mardonius is Xerxes' cousin/brother-in-law who commanded the invasions under both Darius and Xerxes. He kind of goaded Xerxes into invading Greece to avenge his father. Actually, I read recently that it was Artemisia who advised Xerxes to get back home to Persia. And just in time, too, since apparently the Babylonians were getting a bit upset with him... The Persians waited at the bottom of Mount Cithaeron for eight days before they realized the Greeks weren't going to risk attacking them. XD

Original Description:

Sorry I'm so late guys, I'm just plowing through my homework. I'm in the middle of an angry rant project- okay it's just an English group project, but my topic is on 300 and I have to condense my anger into four minutes, so that'll be interesting. A couple panels from Athens and Sparta Adventures are on the slides. I worry about my poor group members having to deal with me. XD I still have a ton of Greek homework to get through, then I've got to do my cue cards so I don't flail around during my presentation. @_@ Oh and I should eat food too that would be good And sleep. Which segues nicely into this page I remember giggling to myself in my Classics class when it came to this battle, it's preeeettty funny. I didn't have the fonts to handle all of the Greek characters, so I wrote them out myself.  Awww yeah so skilled. If you're curious, I kind of understand some of the grammar and I know a couple of the words, but I desperately need a translation. I was so happy to find this battle hymn, haha. I believe it's taken from Aeschylus' play, The Persians but I could be wrong. It sayyyys: "Forward, sons of the Greeks, Liberate the fatherland, Liberate-" I guess we'll wait until the next page for the rest of the words and the translation hoo hoo hoo. TO BE CONTINUED... EDIT: I forgot to mention that of course Themistocles HIMSELF wouldn't have gone. He sent ahead his Persian slave Sicinnus in his place (Since obviously he would have been able to speak Persian haha). Apparently Sicinnus was given citizenship and had a dance named after him. XD

Original Description:

This page is pretty much exactly the same as the original (only less messy and colourful, of course) that I drew last year instead- er, I mean, to study for my Classics final. >:3 Well, except for the fact that I hadn't thought of Fem!Athens/Attica then but I thought I might as well shove her in somewhere... and no it wasn't just because she needed a profile picture on my tumblr. XDDD Really it was to explain that the women and children of Athens were evacuated to the Peloponnese and the island of Salamis while the Athenian army prepared for another battle. Sparta's still a bit messed up from Thermopylae. I screwed up the speech bubbles in that panel so I apologize if you read it out of order, I'll fix it. >w< Edit: Fixed! I was really lazy with the speech bubbles when I drew this apparently! I even did the stroking wrong! It's all good now. :3 For those of you who haven't met Fem!Athens in my other art or the Fem!Adventure comics which I said I was going to add onto later and I intend to keep that promise... eventually... er, well, right I was going somewhere with this sentence. Fem!Athens started out as a genderbent version of Athens- partially just because and partially because it was a good way to demonstrate the differences in women's lives in Athens and Sparta. She eventually became the personification of Attica, Athens' surrounding territory, partly so I could talk about rural vs. city life and partly because I wanted to be able to say that she ran around naked in the woods when she was younger. :3 It was a fairly recent decision otherwise she would appear in the Theseus comic since Theseus united the villages of Attica under Athens (cough married them cough) And yes, Athens is technically married to himself.  That's just how I roll apparently. It's not like he could love anyone else as much, hahaha. Well, emotionally/mentally, anyway. Unfortunately that means Attica also has his free spirit and lack of commitment so the more he suppresses her and keeps her from looking at other men the more interested she is in them, haha. Athens blames it on her having a uterus XP Some day I will draw dumb comics of their domestic lives but right now I have a zillion projects and finals to get through. >:I In the mean time enjoyyyyy

Original Description:

I've got about 7 pages done of this chapter so far, so hopefully I'll get the other half done while I'm posting it. >3< That is if I'm not swamped by all those last minute group projects. >_< This is the chapter where Persia finally gets his revenge! ...Or does he? I guess you'll have to read on to see how things turn out. I suck at drawing horses obviously but ehhh. His outfit is based off of an image of Persian cavalry I found somewhere. >w< And the little flourishes and flowers are based off of Persian artwork. ^^ Anyway, I've got an Ancient Greek quiz bright and early tomorrow morning, so I need to get some rest! Good night, everyone!!
