AAW is actually the acronym for asexuality awareness week and you're detracting from that. Have you considered AroAW?
Has the Asexual Community considered that they are not the only identity beginning with A? The mods here who identify as on the Asexual spectrum sure have. What about Agender, Aplatonic, Aromantic, Asensual, Aego-, Akoi-, Aco-, Alterous, Apothi-?I’m prepared to consider alternatives for the purposes of clarity.I particularly like ASAW because it is about the Aromantic Spectrum after all.I’m not prepared to have an anon come into my askbox and tell me that the simplest acronym available [which wasn’t even the general Tumblr tag which was ‘AroSpec Awareness Week’, just our personal one] is detracting from someone else who get there first and rudely tell me that I don’t deserve the letter A.[Vagg]
Anon i have no idea if you meant to come off as rude as you did so I'm not gonna be upset at you or anything i just wanted to point some things out:
We get a lot of asks and comments about how we are distracting people from other events, as if we don't deserve to have attention when the others should
We also get a lot of asks that tell us to change something without considering there should be a compromise, not just us changing
We actually take a lot of stuff into consideration when we make decisions here, including the name, dates, events, etc. We used AroAW before but ditched that with the Aromantic Awareness Week name change since AroAW makes it seem like we're only here for aromantics, not the entire aro spectrum (hence Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week).
We share A with every A identity, yknow. Ace, aro, agender, aplatonic, a- everything. Saying AAW only stands for ace awareness week is like saying "the A only stands for ace" which is not good at all
I have yet to see anyone tell the acespec community that they are detracting from arospec awareness week, so I am led to believe the only individuals that see a problem are from acespec; yet many of us mods are acespec and a lot of our community is also acespec...
As for considering alternatives, we are thinking that ASAW may be a good acronym for us since we are Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week, but we also don't see why there is a problem to start with when there was no cross tagging in our tags. Our awareness weeks are on very different sides of the year, as we understand it.
Also, if the ace community should move toward using "Asexual Spectrum Awareness Week" like we did with our awareness week, then we'd also be sharing ASAW. ArospecAW could work, though it's not as short as the others.
We can share AAW, you know c: Unless we both should start using ArospeAW and AceAW. Because letting ace awareness keep AAW and telling us not to use it is kinda fucked up
