Today’s featured Captain Swan Little Bang author is @ab-normality!
How long have you been writing for the OUAT fandom? Did you write anything else (original or fan fiction) before joining the OUAT fandom?
I wrote for January Joy 2017 and I’ve written a couple of little drabbles. I also wrote for the Glee fandom and the Merlin fandom before OUAT.
What sort of fic do you like to write? What sort of fic do you like to read?
I’m a sucker for both writing and reading fluff. I mostly read AU’s and I adore best friends to lovers, bedsharing and coffeeshop AU’s.
Besides your Little Bang fic, do you have anything else in the works?
I have a couple of ideas for Christmas fics and I’m planning to write for January Joy 2018.
If you participated in the 2016 Big or Little Bangs, or the 2017 Big Bang, what was the experience like for you? What are you looking forward to this time around?
I was a beta and artist in the Big Bang 2017 and I loved being inspired by the writers I was working with. I especially had so much fun making the video trailer for ‘To Every Thing A Season’. I’m looking forward to getting to experience Little Bang from a writer’s point of view instead!
Featured Fic: Step By Step My Heart Will Start Melting
This is the only fic idea I’ve fully developed for CS and I loved the process of working from a prompt and putting my own spin on it. For a first attempt at writing these characters, I was really satisfied with how it turned out.
Check out @ab-normality on FFnet, AO3, and Tumblr!
This isn't a very specific prompt because I have flu brain fog but something involving lots of CS cuddles and blankets please :)
I’m sorry you’re not feeling well, dear! I hope this cheers you up a little bit! ♥ Here’s CS cuddles and blankets.
Killian thought one of the nicest thing about living along the ocean was being able to pad down the autumn chilled staircase and find the living room just as serene and peaceful as if it were the shoreline itself. Alone in these wee hours of the morning, he appeased the desire to feel the salty breeze and opened the bay windows that faced the harbor. Fall air seeped into the room, the smell of damp leaves and crisp chill.
It wasn’t that he didn’t love sleeping beside his wife. In fact, if he could spend eternity in their bed wrapped in warmth, he rather doubted he’d mind. But there were some nights when even her gentle touch on his chest couldn’t chase away the nightmarish demons that bled into his dreams, and there was no point of tossing and turning to fall back asleep if it would wake her.
But the dreams were over now, and he was okay. He just needed these few moments by the sea, alone with his thoughts. Time passed without gaining his notice, and for what was probably hours, Killian stood by the window.
His thoughts were interrupted by a pair of arms wrapping around his shoulders, a cheek pressed up against his back.
“You alright?” Emma asked, her sleepy voice the first sound he’d heard in awhile besides the usual sounds of the sea. As her grip tightened, he noticed it was not just her arms, but a large blanket wrapped around the two of them. It was silky against the corners of his chin, that fleece material that seemed to get softer as you burrow into it. He took hold of the corners with hand and hook, allowing Emma to slide her arms around his middle, palms smoothing over the skin of his chest.
“Aye, love, I am now.”
Whatever remnants of distress evaporated the second Emma began to pepper kisses to his shoulder blades, nails gently combing through his chest hair. For a moment, Killian allowed himself to simply enjoy the pleasant sensations brought about by her touch. He felt them blossoming wherever she caressed, a tingling sensation that traveled down to his toes.
But nothing compared to holding her directly in his arms, so he spun around and pulled her to his chest. The blanket was wrapped tightly around the both of them and Killian felt his eyes begin to get heavy again. Emma must have been getting sleepier too, because she laid her head against his chest and inhaled the spicy scent of him. He pressed his lips against her temple, the satiny softness of her hair tickling his nose.
“I can leave you alone if you want,” Emma said quietly. She was good like that, always there if he needed her, always willing to give him room to breathe.
“No, stay with me.” He rested his cheek on the top of her head, fingers running through her hair and down her back.
“Why don’t we go back to bed?” she suggested. Sleep sounded so good, especially if it meant chasing after more warmth with her.
As he tucked himself into bed, Emma moved silently across the room and opened the window that faced the sea. The room immediately took on a chill, but underneath the heavy comforter, all Killian could feel was wind brushing along his cheeks.
“There, that way she’s not too far if you need her,” Emma said, straightening out the sheer curtains. Killian always enjoyed when his wife tried to encourage his affair with his mistress, the sea, but after all this time, she had to know.
“She would not be so far if only she would come back to bed,” he replied. An affectionate glimmer lit in her eyes, a bright thing that he could see even across the room. Clambering back over to the bed, she joined him at his side, and they immediately picked up where they left off. Emma curled around Killian, her head against his chest as always.
Under so many blankets and holding his Savior and True Love in his arms, Killian finally felt enough peace to fall asleep.
I love love LOVE your liveblogs! It’s like they make me excited about the episode all over again. And I’m so happy you’re looking forward to this new storyline because I am too :)
Thanks so much friend! I love that there are others out there who share my love for the show too! <3
songbird + secret relationship/friends to lovers (thank you!)
Fools Like Me by Lisa Loeb
I see your two tropes and raise you a third. So have this friends to lovers/secret relationship/fake relationship fic. I ended up working on this a few days in a row because it was being difficult and begged to be longer than a short exercise. Thanks to @high-seas-swan for getting me writing last night and finishing this.

When the hostess asked how many in their party Elsa held up three fingers and gave Killian a smirk that made him nervous. She meant well but had an annoying habit of trying to set him up. He could have told her he wasn’t ready to move on from Milah which wasn’t exactly true, he could have told her his heart was engaged elsewhere but that was a little too true, instead, he avoided and made excuses. But she seemed to have found a way around that strategy.
“Love, who is joining us this afternoon?” He asked as they were escorted to their seats.
“Emma.”
“Swan? Why did you invite her?” Killian tried to keep his voice level but he couldn’t help the flutter of excitement. Had Elsa managed to match him with the only woman he cared to be with? Quickly he reined in the thought, Emma was just one of their friends and Elsa had likely invited her as a friend.
As they sat Elsa gave him a chiding look. “Killian, I know. Emma told me.”
He prided himself on his quick mind and ability to understand people and situations, it was one of the reasons he was a good lawyer, but he was struggling to wrap his mind around what Elsa was talking about.
“Told you what, exactly?”
“She told me about, you know.” Elsa smiled and then leaned forward to whisper. “That you two are dating.”
Killian’s mouth dropped open and his mind scrambled to make sense of a word that, up until that moment, had seemed so common. Him and Swan, dating? It was something he had wanted, had thought about more times than he could count, had assumed wasn’t possible because she saw him only as a friend–not boyfriend material as she had once said. It was something he had put far from his mind as he focused on being the kind of steady friend that she needed but now…
“Dating? She told you that?”
“Don’t look so surprised. She is my best friend, she was bound to tell me eventually. And don’t get mad at her either I kind of forced the issue by springing a blind date on her.”
Suddenly Killian understood exactly what had happened. Emma, not wanting to go on a date but not wanting to say why, had reached for an excuse that Elsa couldn’t push away. And since he spent so much time with Emma Elsa hadn’t thought to question it, she had probably squealed in delight at the idea of her two friends getting together. But why hadn’t Emma warned him, told him she was using him to get out of the clutches of well-meaning matchmakers?
“Don’t look so serious, Killian. I know you guys wanted to keep it a secret in case it didn’t work out and I get not wanting Henry or the rest of the group to know because, well, they can be a bit judgemental.”
Killian snorted thinking of David and how their junior year of college he had told Killian to stay far from his sister, of course, things were different now but Killian was quite sure that in David’s mind Emma was still off-limits.
“But we all know you’re crazy about her so it’s not like a huge surprise.”
Killian’s mouth went dry. “Have I really been so transparent?”
“Like a sheet of ice.” Killian flushed and Elsa laughed. “If it helps I think she is crazy about you too.”
His heartbeat quickened and something like hope bloomed in his chest–wild and uncontainable. He wanted to pump Elsa for details but gave her a wink and a smirk instead. “Well, of course, love, how could she resist this devilishly handsome face?”
Else shook her head at his bravado. “We both know the face is just a bonus as far as she is concerned.”
And he smiled as if he knew what she meant but he didn’t, he really had no clue just what Emma had said to sell their fake relationship and he dared not believe that any of it might be true.
“Oh, there she is,” Elsa said.
Killian turned and caught Emma’s face as a look of panic swept over it and he knew that she hadn’t expected him to be there, that Elsa hadn’t mentioned he would be there. He stood and moved toward her. He half-expected her to run away but she seemed frozen to the spot. He gave her a smile and a wink and her posture relaxed. He pulled her into his arms.
“I hear we are a couple now,” he whispered in her ear.
“Killian I–“
He pulled back and fixed her with a look. “Don’t tell me you are dumping me already, Swan?” She cracked a smile. “You wouldn’t want to destroy my fragile ego now would you?”
“You are ridiculous.”
He grinned in response and then took her hand firmly in his, which as far as he was concerned was where her hand belonged. “You got this, Emma. It’s just one lunch and then we can figure out the rest later.” He didn't add that he hoped that later would never come.
She bit her lip and nodded then he turned and led her to the table.
Elsa was beaming at them both, her eyes jumping to their joined hands like a kid surveying her Christmas gifts. Killian pulled out Emma’s chair and she sat with a murmured “thank you”. Then he settled back in his seat careful to pull it closer to Emma’s and reclaimed her hand.
“I know I shouldn’t have surprised you both,” Elsa said, “But I just had to see you two together.”
Emma rolled her eyes. “You’ve seen us together loads of times.”
“I’ve seen you together as friends. That’s totally different.”
“She has a point, love. Perhaps we should show her just how different?” He waggled his eyebrows and she released his hand so she could smack him on the shoulder.
He chuckled. "See, she can't keep her hands off me."
The waiter arrived and they were preoccupied with ordering and then catching up on their various lives–Killian’s clients, Emma’s skips, Elsa’s business meetings. It was a normal lunch except that he kept brushing Emma's hand and whenever Killian wanted to look at Emma he didn’t take quick glances but stared like a man in love. Each time Emma caught him looking he grinned at her and it was freeing this ability to look and smile and not worry about anyone seeing and knowing his secret. Her glances went from questioning to pleased to intent as if she too wanted to look without inhibition. He was lost in her eyes when Elsa gave up telling her story.
“Okay enough doey eyes.”
Emma blushed but Killian flashed Elsa a smile. “Sorry, darling. What were you saying?”
“Doesn’t matter, I want to hear about how you two started dating.”
Killian looked to Emma hoping she had a story prepared and was surprised when she gave him a shy smile and started speaking.
“It was two months ago. Killian was helping me clean up Henry’s pizza party.”
“It was a real mess, the kids had spilled soda and one of the tubs of ice cream had melted on the counter,” Killian added, remembering the state of the apartment when they had arrived. Neal had insisted on throwing the party and Emma had let him use her apartment before he took the kids to the movie and they were both shocked by what they found. Killian had only come up to borrow a DVD but couldn’t let her clean it all by herself.
“Yeah it was a huge mess and Killian helped me clean it all up and when we were finished I thanked him.”
“And I suggested that there were other ways she could show her appreciation.”
Elsa groaned and rolled her eyes almost exactly as Emma had that night. She had looked so tired and frustrated that Killian had tried outrageous flirting to cheer her up. Of course, a small part of him had been hoping she would take him up on his offer but that was the foolish, delusional part. Although, there had been something in Emma’s eye just before she turned away from him that had haunted his dreams that night.
“He looked so smug and so attractive that I decided to shut him up and I grabbed him by his shirt and kissed him.”
Emma met his gaze and Killian licked his lips. If only it had actually happened that way. If only the look in her eye meant that she felt something more than friendship for him.
Elsa let out a squeal. “And then what?”
“And then” Killian replied not breaking eye contact, “I told her it was about bloody time, that I had been waiting for her to kiss me for years but that I wanted more than just a kiss, I wanted to be with her.”
Emma’s eyes fluttered and he wondered if she knew that he wasn’t pretending, that he was speaking from his heart.
Elsa sighed. “That is so romantic.”
He turned to Elsa, his charming grin masking the turmoil he felt inside. “I don't know why you sound surprised. I am a consummate romantic.”
"Hopeless is more like it," she returned.
"Perhaps." He gave her a smile but the truth of her words hit him hard. He was a hopeless, romantic, fool when it came to Emma Swan and if she didn't know that before she did now.
The check came then and the conversation turned to the weekend and what they had planned. Emma was unnervingly quiet and whenever Killian glanced at her she avoided looking back.
They stood to leave and Emma grabbed his hand and moved until she was almost pressed against him. Warmth filled his bones. If only it were real. They walked together to the sidewalk and then parted. Elsa hugged them both but spent a little longer whispering something in Emma’s ear. Then she gave them both a happy look and started off down the street.
Killian expected Emma to drop his hand right away but she turned and they began walking together. At a loss at what to say he decided to let her speak first.
“I’m sorry for putting you in that position. Elsa had a guy waiting in my hallway and I just panicked.”
Killian chuckled. “I assumed as much. But you have nothing to apologize for, Swan. I rather enjoyed it.”
She stopped walking and turned to him. “You did?” Her eyes were so open and so vulnerable that he caught his breath.
“Aye.”
And then she was kissing him, her mouth hot on his, stunning him for a moment before he responded. His hand went to her hip and hers went to his hair. In all his dreams of kissing Emma Swan, it had never been quite this hungry, this passionate. Even in his fantasies, he couldn’t conceive of her wanting him like this. They broke apart and he struggled to catch his breath. Their foreheads pressed together and he couldn’t help placing a soft kiss on her cheek.
“Emma.” His voice came out embarrassingly low. “Please tell me this isn’t part of the act.”
“It’s not. And it's not just a thank you either." She kissed him again a gentle press and his already soaring heart seemed to burst from his chest. He stroked her cheek with his thumb and then pulled back once more.
“I think we need to go on a date, a real one, with kissing and maybe sex at the end.”

I’m honestly chill with anything regarding them and kids.
No kids? No problem!
All the kids? Let them have em!
A boy? Why not!
A girl? Sure thing!
Twinsies? Go for it!
I’ve done a couple one shots with them having a babe or two, but it’s not something that i’m in dire need of as a fan or anything. I’m good with whatever. Kids or lack of aren’t a major headcanon for me tbh lol. So i’m easy going.
