Yeah, I think my reasoning for viewing Shaw as a top so strongly has a lot to do with the fact that I just feel like she would want to keep control over the situation? With someone like Root though, I don't think that she would bother just sleeping with her once. Like, she works with her, so if she were to sleep with her at all... I don't know. I don't even want to call it 'dating' but just being more monogamous? So maybe I could see her feeling more comfortable with a partner she sleeps with more than once about not being a top all of the time, if that makes sense. I just see Root as more willing to be a bottom than Shaw though, despite being a top in probably most other situations.
From what I've seen in interviews, Sarah thinks that Shaw would probably include like blades or knife play into her sex life. No specifics there on how exactly... But then there's also the fact that in the show she's specified that she doesn't like 'clingy' or 'cuddly' men. And they had the discussion between Reese and Finch in Mors about her possibly using a taser on herself. If she's doing stuff like that with people she is meeting with the intention to spend one night with, I just don't see her letting them be dominant or have as much control.
I also think my other problem is... I first saw Sarah as Carmen from the L Word and Carmen and Shaw are very different.
Carmen is a cuddler, she's affectionate and can play both dominant and submissive roles. She's also very loud, which I cannot see Shaw being. I feel like Shaw is more the type to watch what is going on quietly, small noises being the best you're going to get from her.
