The Renaissance Faire - a dream-like place where the past came alive, in more ways than one for Abby. The costumes, the sights and sounds, the food... it all reminded her of home. For a brief, painful moment she missed her home world, the magical land where she had grown up. But there was no use dwelling on the past. There would be no magical portal to sweep her away, not now. She hadn’t seen one in years now, and she and Sarah had accepted this world as their final home.
Still, it was nice to feel so close to home, even if it was an illusion.
Her magic buzzed as she walked through the market, her light-colored dress immaculate despite the muddy ground. How easy it was, to fall back into the old role of nobility, her posture straight and sure as she moved, people quickly moving aside for her. All she was missing was a gaggle of servants following her, insisting she return home before her mother discovered her absence.
But this was the Land Of Pretend. There were no servants, no abusive mother, no magic. No revolution and no dark secrets, hidden in the underground of a gleaming city. Only joy, and laughter, and a sort of magic that could only be achieved by those who had only heard tales of the real thing.
No, this was only the Land of Pretend, but just for one day, she could pretend to be one of its citizens.
