ABCU: an abundance of love and cats
Alpine has her kittens under the dining room table one warm afternoon - you haven’t seen her all weekend and you worry despite Bucky telling you it’s best to rest, that Alpine will be just fine. It’s not until you hear the tiny meows as you set the table for a sweet dinner date, that you breathe a sigh of relief before gasping!
Four tiny kittens laying snuggled safe up to your sweet Alpy, tiny pink fluffy things that already you can see the mama cat is protective over. Down on your knees, you gaze in awe, marvelling at what your sweet kitty has achieved.
“Oh Alpine they are so beautiful, well done honey, good girl.”
Meanwhile bucky has heard the gasp and finds you on the floor and an icy thread of fear has laced through his spine. Before he can even choke out “lovie?” You’re glancing up to pull him over.
“Shush, come look! Alpine had her babies, there’s at least 3, maybe 4!” And Bucky’s eyes widen before he joins you on the floor, peering underneath the tablecloth to find the mama cat and her kitties softly resting.
You and Bucky reconvene your dinner date to another night, now working hard on ensuring Alpine and her four sweeties have the best possible care, thinking about just how many cats you can keep: your “we can keep them all, Buck!” opposes his “lovie we’re gonna have our own baby soon, we can’t have 5 entire cats”, and in the end you decide you will decide later.
For the entire weekend, Alpine has refused to budge from under the dining table. You and Bucky have placed her meals underneath a chair and some water right by where she and her babies sleep. She seems content, and loves to groom and love upon her sweet family.
It’s not until late on the Sunday night, when you and Bucky are tucked up in bed, that she appears at your bedroom door, a tiny furry ginger kitten in her mouth. She works hard to bring the sweet ball of fluff up to the bed right beside you and Bucky before she turns back, racing back out the door. Moments later, another fluffy ball appears, this one as white as their mother - perhaps whiter - and joins the ginger kitty on the bed. One by one, mama Alpine brings her babies to you, knowing that they would be safe.
Bucky soaks in the moment, watching you, Alpines, and the four new kittens amongst the soft bedsheets. You kiss each one and consider names, before your eyelashes begin to flutter shut. He mutters something about it being harder to name the cats than your own tiny human, which makes you smile as you drift off to sleep, making sure he presses a soft kiss to your lips.
By 1am, Bucky has been kicked out of his own bed by a pregnant lady, one cat and four tiny kittens. Something involved a lack of space, or the need to get extra comfy now that the Barnes brood were growing. He slept on the floor, not minding too much but shaking his head nonetheless.
His heart never stood a chance.
That story about the corgi who was found and presumed to be injured but instead they had rolled around in and eaten an entire jar of jam, before passing out on the floor?
Yeah that’s Alpine.
