Discovering & Celebrating the Arts: Alberta Culture Days
From September 30 to October 2, Alberta Culture Days will fill our communities with live music, art workshops, historical exhibits, dance, cultural performances, and much more. Last year alone, thousands of Albertans discovered and celebrated arts, heritage, and the cultural diversity that already exists in our communities, with almost 900 events in over 70 communities across the province. With a great array of free, family-friendly events, checking out some of the local Alberta Culture Days offerings is a great way to become acquainted with the arts organizations that help create our vibrant arts and culture community.
While Alberta Culture Days events will be happening all over the province, there’s a lot to discover in our own backyard. Wondering what events will be going on in Edmonton? Here’s a brief summary of some of the events Edmontonians can look forward to:
Open Dress Rehearsal: Magnificent Mozart
September 30, Doors at 10:45am, Prelude at 11:00am, Rehearsal from 11:30am - 12:30pm
Hear your Edmonton Symphony Orchestra bring Mozart to the Winspear at Friday’s open dress rehearsal of Magnificent Mozart. From orchestral gems to transcendent works for voice to beloved concertante pieces, this all-Mozart performance has it all.
Backstage Tour of the Winspear
September 30, 12:30pm - 1:30pm
On this tour of the Winspear, you will hear about our rich history, get a behind-the-scenes look at how the symphony is prepared, and learn all about the acoustics of the hall. Parlez-vous français? This edition of the backstage tour will also be offered in French!
September 30, October 1, and October 2, 12:00pm - 4:00pm
At the turn of the last century, people were filled with hope about what the future might hold. Books, photographs, and even films celebrated that possible future. Come explore and imagine what that future could have been for the Rutherfords and others, and what our own future might be.

Experiment with every-day materials to make your own piece of art.
The Alberta Geological Survey and the Royal Alberta Museum will lead us through a tour of downtown, exploring the various rocks and fossils that can be seen in Edmonton buildings.
Collage Workshop with Brandi Strauss, 11:0am – 5:00pm
Local artist Brandi Strauss shows participants the art of collage.
Go Around the World with Edmonton Opera
October 1, 11:30am – 1:30pm, Kingsway Mall
Enjoy opera performances in various languages, arts and crafts, face painting, and a photo booth for the whole family
Edmonton Short Film Festival
October 2, 2:00pm – 5:00pm, Royal Alberta Museum
Experience Alberta Independent Film with a selection of family rated short films, plus create your own micro short video, face painting, virtual reality demonstrations and more.
October 1 (5:00pm – 12:00am) & October 2 (12:00pm – 7:00pm)
Borys Tarasenko will be painting a custom mural on the back of the performance space, and Kasie Campbell will provide a sculptural installation in the storefront space.
Dance Performances & Dance Party
October 1, Performances from 5:00pm – 9:00pm, dance party 9:00pm – 12:00am
October 2, 12:00pm – 6:00pm
Try a sampler plate of dance and movement classes. Everyone welcome, all experience levels and ages!
Film & Visual Arts Society of Alberta (FAVA)
October 1, 9:30pm – 10:30pm, Metro Cinema
Enjoy a diverse screening of content that showcases media art by Albertan artists with works from FAVA's Media Art Collection.
