short answer -- it was a fun joke on my end

long answer -- okay so i've said this before, but aab and abea were originally the same story lol. it was basically the plot of abea, except mc's family was aab and the poor girl was even more fucked up there. benedikt and bencai were originally the same character, and when i split the story up years ago, i didn't realize i gave them similar name cognates, and when i started this version of abea, i found it absolutely hilarious and stuck with it. thanks for coming to my ted talk

I don't get all the love Bencai gets, since it's his fault we are getting married off to Launcelin.

I want to make him suffer for it.

I hope we get the chance to kill off his wife, because if MC doesn't get to marry for love, Ben should not get to keep his own love

in ben's defense, as far as he was aware, he wouldn't ever have a younger sister. the whole engagement fiasco and ensuing marriages all took place between 100 - 102, and mc was born in 103. nobody thought the queen could conceive another child in her 40s, much less actually give birth to a living and somewhat healthy child.

if we're really playing the blame game here, i blame the emperor. he's the one who keeps insisting on the marriage, he's the one who refused to turn a blind eye and adhere to the agreement the two states brokered, and of course, he's at least partially responsible for the shitty selection of husbands for poor mc. like if he just tried a little harder to keep his sons alive, or if he, y'know, parented vezian and wasn't an insufferable dingbat he might actually have a handful of decent sons.

In abea can MC basically be happy and smiley with second brother whenever they see him again and like kicked betrayed puppy with the emperor and bencai?

kicked puppy act won't work on ben -- he's too immune to it now. the dead-eyed and resigned demeanour is much more effective.

juunanku will be swayed by anything bc even though he doesn't show it, he's a complete sucker for mc and considers mc's marriage the biggest mistake of his life.

but in reality, there probably won't be a chance to pull off any of this lol. we're working on a real tight schedule and travel times between nalaantai and essenia are just awful.

Why is it such a gap between Bencai's second and third childrens birth?

just life got busy and they were unlucky, nothing dramatic. bencai was frequently going back and forth between essenia, nalaantai, and the yetakh tribes for a few years.

I don't know if this has been asked but what are the abea boys (including mc's brothers, father, and the emperor) sleeping positions/do they sleep with a weapon?

launcelin -- usually sleeps with a knife nearby, and sleeps on his back so he can cut a bitch if the need arises, but secretly likes spooning if he feels secure enough

vezian -- also sleeps with some kind of weapon nearby; also sleeps on his back so he can cut a bitch

lu’anyu -- sleeps with a knife as well; sleeps on his side and proceeds to complain of a sore shoulder every morning

ouren -- likes to hog the blanket, and sleeps in weird positions that always leave him mildly confused when he wakes up

secret ro -- sleeps with a weapon too, and sleeps like a corpse

bencai -- keeps a knife under his pillow; likes spooning as he falls asleep, big spoon or little spoon

muzhi -- has too many weapons hidden around his bed to count, and also has a tendency to sleep in bizarre positions, but always ready to cut a bitch

juunanku -- also keeps a knife under his pillow, and usually sleeps on his back. sometimes falls asleep hugging the pillow his wife made him when he’s really tired

alysendaur -- another knife club member, and just sleeps on his back, hates other people touching him when sleeping lol

How did abea Ben and his wife meet? What was their first impression of each other? Was their marriage arranged? Who made the first move?

mingha had been a garden maid when they first met back in 95 R.A, and ben had been trying to chase a bby mumu (who very much did not want to attend his lessons and instead wished to swing around his wooden sword), and mingha had caught the errant prince lol.

they really didn’t have much of a first impression? bencai was the crown prince, and she was a garden maid, no more no less. they just kept running into each other afterward, starting talking more and became friends, and then ben asked if he could transfer her to his staff (which made everyone think they were intimate, but they weren’t lmao).

there’s no real moment where things just fell into place, more like mingha realized her feelings first, stuffed them away bc ben was too oblivious/dense to realize his own, plus he was already engaged to kateryne, yet somehow was the one to make the first move bc when his marriage started looming over him, he realized “yikes, i think i caught the feelings for someone else”
