When it was all done and the name change application was sent off Gunner felt happy for the first time in a while.

Gunner: Thanks Grandpa.

Abel: Anytime son, I’m here for you anytime.

Gunner left Abel standing in the garden that started it all for him.

Abel: Their growing so fast Trin. I wish you were here...

The adoption came through and Abel ended up adopting both puppies brought to him since Trinity had asked them to bring two for him to choose from.

They talked for a long time and before you know it Gunner felt better about what was going on and how to handle it. Abel explained that Sidney and Marvin didn’t really do anything wrong especially since Gunner never made his interest known until after it had happened. 

After thinking it over Gunner decided he would just stay away from them both for a while and see what happened. By the end of the conversation Abel approached the subject of Gunner changing his last name.

Gunner: I’ve already looked and I can fill out everything online I just need a credit card for payment.

Abel: Well you’re lucky that I have one then.

Gunner called the only other person he trusted. He showed up to the house an hour later and Abel was waiting outside for him just back from a jog.

Abel: You sounded aggravated on the phone. What happened?

Gunner: Grandad I don’t know what to do? I had a falling out with someone close to me and I’m not sure how to handle it.

Abel motioned for him to go in to the house. Gunner always loved being here and hoped that Abel could help him get his mind right because even though he was angry with Sidney and Marvin they were like family to him.

Abel sat quietly reading while Gunner filled out the application to have his last name changed. Once Gunner got to the end of the form he turned to his Grandfather.

Gunner: Grandpa...I’m done, now what.

Abel knew by his voice that he wasn’t quite done yet.

Abel: Hit submit son...hit submit

Abel: Are you sure you what to do this son?

Gunner: Yes Grandpa. I’ve talked to Mom and Dad and they’re ok with it After what happened with Grandma I feel even more like it should be now.

Abel sat down and looked his two oldest children in the eyes before he could speak he got choked up just looking at Everly who was so much like Trinity. Faith looked just like her Mother but Everly was the strength behind them all.

Abel: So I just received a call from an Animal Shelter in Brindleton Bay.

Marianne: Brindleton Bay? That’s so far away. Why did they call you?

Abel: They had actually been trying to reach your Mom. Apparently she was in the process of adopting a puppy and had been approved for delivery of it. They are dropping it off tomorrow.

Everly: I completely forgot. she said that you were so sad after Ducky died all those years ago that she thought you would like another one to retire with.
