Sometimes I get bookmarks on fics with comments (which I love, I check my bookmarks sporadically to see if anyone's said something sweet, and it always delights me to see) but sometimes those comments make me go "oh, I wish you'd said this in the actual comments on the fic so we could discuss this!!!"

Like, I'd love to tell PartitionsOfPeril that while I don't have a full transcript of the server meeting that happened in a body is an object, I have slowly been working on a second fic in this universe from Pearl's POV.

That if abiao is about the identity crisis of being someone but not being someone at the same and when do you stop being able to call yourself the same person (or when do you start being able to call yourself the same person?) and the inherent horror of losing someone and something coming back with their face and their voice but it's not them (and the inherent grief and struggle of being the thing that came back in someone else's skin)

then this follow-up is about grieving someone who's right in front of you (but not really) and processing that loss and moving on, but also the guilt of beginning to care for the thing that came back with your friend's face not because they look like your friend but because you care about them for their own sake, and about having to grapple with the fact that you care about them and would be upset if your friend suddenly came back and replaced them.

And also about Pearl and Cleo getting wine drunk and talking about feelings and shit. (non-romantically. unless...)

But they didn't comment they just bookmarked, so I just have to say this here and idk hope they search themselves on tumblr sometimes and find it???? Alas.

Thank you so much! I am so so proud of abiao and I definitely think it's one of the best things I've ever written so I'm always absolutely delighted to hear people liked it!!! (if you ever want to just shoot the shit about it/the AU in general, seriously hmu I'm ruffboi on discord and I absolutely LOVE talking with folks about this story and some of the other shit I've worked on but may never finish lol)

Good news about the tweet: whilst I don't have a link to the original (I tried and could not find it before I posted, I think it may've gotten deleted) I do have the link to the post I linked in my end notes, as it just needs the url updated to my new one lol. Jimmy didn't know about Grian. But Jimmy'd known old-Grian. Which is why she rang him up on the third sleepless night.

"Hello, there, Pearl!" he answered. "Haven't heard from you in ages, how's your new server treating you?"

"Do you think Grian would mind us moving on?" she asked without answering, staring up at the stars from where she stretched out on her roof.

"I... what?" Jimmy asked hesitantly.

"Grian," Pearl repeated. "Do you think he'd feel... I dunno. Abandoned? Forgotten? If we just... move on?"

"Bit heavy tonight, Pearl," Jimmy says, sounding... tired. Pearl feels a stab of guilt over having pulled him into her spiral.

"Yeah," she admits. "Sorry."

"Nah, it's all right, I think about it, too," Jimmy assures her, and she knows she does not deserve such a good friend as him. "I think that he would bitch and moan about it before it happened, like... like how dare we stop thinking about him at every moment of the day!" Pearl laughs softly at Jimmy's impression of Grian, mostly because it's still quite good, even years after the last time they spoke.

"He would," she agrees.

"Yeah," Jimmy sighs in a faint ghost of exasperated fondness. "But the thing is... he wouldn't really want that. He wasn't like that. I think he'd just like to know that we were happy and we didn't forget him entirely."

But finally, on the third afternoon while Scar was fixing a bit of a late lunch for both of them and chattering on about where he'd gotten stuck on his roller coaster build, Grian slammed his hands down on the table and shouted, "What do you want from me? You can't just be letting me stay, so what's the catch?"

Scar fell silent for a long moment, then sighed. "There's no catch, Grian," he said. "If you're secretly holed up on someone's private sub-server, you must've had a pretty darn good reason for hiding like that. I've had to run before, and I wouldn't have managed to get my feet under me if people hadn't helped. I'm just paying it on."

Grian huffed a laugh, or what could barely be called a laugh, and sat back down. "I'm not running from anything," he said, voice tired and small.

"Hmm," Scar replied, continuing to make their lunch. "Well, maybe not yet. But I bet you're going to."

"...Wouldn't be much use," Grian replied after a long moment, staring down at his hands. "They'd just find me."

"That's what I thought too, once," Scar agreed. "But you know what I found out? If you're stubborn and determined enough, you can lose any tail."

Grian laughed again, but with a bit more life to it. "I'll have to take your word for it," he said, and Scar grinned triumphantly.

congrats on making me cry for the 5th time :( youd think i would be able to stop but. no :( i was doing sooooooo good this time i was able to keep it all in and then grian and pearl's ending conversation broke me :( anyways. uh. keep it up you beautiful beautiful man (gn)

The tragedy of OG!Grian dying and never knowing that his friends made it off Evo in one piece (if a bit psychologically scarred) still breaks my heart. Like it gets to be a happyish ending, but not for him. 😭

👻 What is one WIP you think you may never pick back up?

Hmmm... As much as I loved and planned my viper!Jaskier fic, I don't know that I'll ever get back to it. I desperately want to get back to my other notable unfinished Witcher fic, nights without sleep, but by god still am kinda feels like it may stay as it is. (I'd be tickled if that ever changed tho obviously)

Also my yet-unpublished WIP of make a refuge seems pretty stalled and may never see public release.

As much as I've got some stuff written even, I wouldn't yet call my follow up to a body is an object a WIP yet. I'm not quite sure what I want to explore with it yet.

💭 What is a headcanon you have about your own work?

I'm not sure what this means??? like, if it's my fic, it's part of my fic, not really a headcanon ABOUT my fic? But uh... I guess probably the not-technically-canon-but-important-to-me thing is that Grian and Mumbo in mimic!fic are dating. It's not necessary to be into it as a ship, but they fully are. (Grian and Scar are also dating. It's even less necessary to the fic itself. But it's true in my head!)
