A More Modern Form of Governance
In the Chieftaincy system we have in Ghana. There is the Omanhene.
Omanhene is the paramount chief. Your president. The Omanhene has a council of elders that form part of his advisory team. Your ministers.
Then there is the Okyeame, the linguist. You speak to the Omanhene through the Okyeame. The Omanhene speaks to you through the Okyeame. Your public relation or communications officer.
Above all, there is the Obaa Hemaa, the Queen Mother. She nominates the Omanhene when the seat becomes vacant. Like everything African, Europeans just take the woman aspect out.
For a primitive bunch of people who feasted on each other and had bones sticking out in our noses,we were pretty ahead of our time. Practicing a form of governance modern societies will eventually use.
Our institution. They took. And turned us into caricatures.
Europeans say they got their political institutions from the Greeks. We have just shown where they got it from then.
In Ghana today,we learn in school that it was the British that introduced this modern form governance to us. The British. When we were practicing this form of governance long before the English was even a language.
So now. We have to re-educate and re-civilize ourselves to build ourselves back again.
