yall can say whatever the fuck you want about amber glenn but this girl is progressing figure skating and sports in general. she's 26 and a competitive athlete in a sport where loads of women retire as they become legal. she has a triple axel, an ultra-c which is hard to get and even harder to keep. a lot of people believe women lose it after finishing puberty. amber glenn defies that. she decided to talk about periods and the struggles she had while competing with it at the olympics, even though it's a 'taboo' topic for women in society. she's openly apart of the queer community and constantly keeps representing it as a form of normalising seeing people like that in the public light. she spoke out against the olympic beijing situation, and used her voice and influence to send a message that it was in no way okay to be shoving cameras in the faces of 17 year old girls who just got their dreams crushed. she proceeded to shield kaori from those same cameras at milano and comforted her, while also being happy for alysa, her own teammate and friend who won over her. she chose to be happy for her friend over sorry for herself. amber glenn, thank you for your service. you will always be famous and an inspiration.

your 15 year old golden girl who broke a world record ended up in fourth place because she was getting hounded and pressured by the media, her country, and her coaching staff because of a doping scandal.

your second place silver medalist is having a mental breakdown because she had done everything she could've, broke a world record, and still ended up in second, which she then realized the abuse and work she endured ultimately resulted to "nothing."

your olympic gold medalist is sitting alone, not celebrating, not smiling, just sitting there feeling numb. there were absolutely no coaches that gave her a genuine congratulations because her other two teammates were having mental breakdowns.

the fact of the matter is that these girls were abused. period. you look at them and they are emaciated. likely dehydrated for days.

and these are children. kamila was fifteen bearing the weight of perfection and the weight of a doping scandal that no child should ever have to bear. anna and sasha were just seventeen. those were children.
