The Heart of Winter
Gunnar was obviously sore about loosing the contests, but oddly didn’t seem to care much about having to give up the Heart of Winter. When Samantha asked why, he shrugged and explained that it’s job had already been done. As soon ad the giants found it, it had been sent to Utgard-Loki and used it to summon the Jotunhammer. The Heart was then returned to Gunnar as a trophy. The Three-Year winter is about to begin. The Scions were too late.
Abigail allowed herself a little “I told you so!” gloat that the rest of the Scions had to acknowledge.
The Heart of Winter is a blue/white stone about the size of a man’s fist. It radiates with cold. If one of the Scions touches it, the stone starts to turn pink and beat like a heart. It could be used to give someone frost powers, and Abigail was extremely tempted for a moment to keep the stone for herself.
The others reminded her that they needed it to save Cybil and they needed to hurry back to the dwarves’ home to do just that.
