MONDAY LOOK @alicecampello #shopart #dallatestaaipiedi #abitino #zaino #sneakers #theperfectstyle #shopartmania
For the abitino you said one of the things needed was a picture of a saint. Does it matter which saint is used? Especially if you don't know many saints other than the ones people usually talk about. And if it needs to be a certain one which one(s) would be the best to use?
Hello there! Mario didn’t say for this specific one, but it is common to choose a saint that you have some relation to. For instance, the one of the church where you were baptised, one you are devoted to in general, or one that can help you with a specific problem. For general protection you can basically choose any saint, as long as you know their name, why they were canonised. For specific protection look up saints according to their area of patronage. I lieu of a paper image, a medallion can be used.
How to make a protective "abitino" as taught by Mario
Since it is Monday, I thought I would share some Monday magic with you - that is, magic to be worked on a Monday. I learned this back in 2011. Although the content is definitely traditional, this is a rather modern way (I believe) of making an "abitino", a religious protective amulet bag, that many Italians, particularly children, carry even today. I'm not sure where this method is from originally, as I never wrote it down, or maybe I wasn't told and forgot to ask. It could be Lazio, which is where the person who taught me was from, but I am not willing to swear on it. The word "abitino" means "little habit", after the religious habit of the monks.
What you need
The materials needed to make a small square bag of red silk* measuring about 4x4 cm
A pinch of dried petals of red carnation
A pinch of sea salt
An acorn **
A grain of frankincense
A small image of a saint
A piece of white paper and a pen.
One white and one red candle
What you do
On a Monday, which is the day dedicated to propitiatory magic, start by sewing the bag with your own hands.
Take the carnation petals and put them inside the bag while reciting a Gloria.
Then add the salt, the acorn, and the incense - in that order - and for each item recite a Gloria (all in all you will recite Gloria four times).
Fold the image of the saint as many times as needed to fit inside the bag, and add it to the bag while reciting the Lord's Prayer.
Take the piece of paper and write on it the full name of the person to be protected.
Place the two candles on a table and put the bag between them on top of the piece of paper.
At 11:00 or at 22:00 light the candles and keep them burning for half an hour.
Extinguish the candles, put the paper inside the bag, and sew it shut.
The "abitino" is finished, and the person to be protected by it must wear it close to their body at all times.
The finished product should look something like this - make a loop and fasten to a string or chain or thong of leather and carry around your neck or use it to fasten it to the inside of your clothes with a safety pin.
Notes
* Use what you have - few of us happen to have scraps of red silk lying around. As long as the material is light and easy to sew on, use what scrap you have. That's what regular people used to do when this sort of magic was a common thing.
** Find a small one as possible, because this bag is tiny, and you will want to keep it hidden under your clothes.
