“Digital Divide in the New Normal”
The digital divide in the new normal has never been more pronounced. In this time of new normal, the digital divide becomes more apparent. We rely on technology and the internet to continue our lives in the new normal. However, to be able to connect with other people we need access to the knowledge and skills needed to utilize the devices that are the results of new technologies. Moreover, many people don’t have the ability to use digital technologies due to technical gaps, socioeconomic backgrounds, and having less internet bandwidth. Some people who are competent and have access to the internet and technological devices use these as a means to attack other cyber citizens. The gap between persons with and without the internet, which has existed since the internet's creation, has widened even further during the COVID-19 pandemic. We may not notice it but in this new normal, having access to more internet bandwidth, technological skills and knowledge, and devices to use defines your social status. With quite a bit of society coming to a halt, individuals look to Information and Communications Technologies to adjust to the advancing uncertainty and work with negligible disturbance. During the situation of the pandemic, those with broadband who could proceed with distance learning, seeing their doctor virtually basically, working from a distance, and associating with friends and family on video calls. Yet, while it's become ordinary to expect that everybody approaches something as appearing as the web, that couldn't possibly be more off-base.
On the sight of that COVID-19 has shown us anything and let us learn, it is that admittance to technology and a pattern of advanced abilities are necessities. People, companies, instructive foundations and networks have all needed to bring a jump into a computerized climate to adapt to what might be the new Normal. Many people found the transition to online life to be, at least technologically, simple. However, while it is common to believe that everyone has access to something as simple as the internet, this could not be further from the truth. With the help of technology, people are able to know the situation of the world amidst pandemic hurdles as in our life but by its presence we learn to adapt to the beauty of technology and its less hassle to help when it comes to work. As we embrace the new normal in our lives, may we apply the netiquettes in cyberspace and learn to help those who are struggling, as it was only then that the digital divide can be stopped.
