You tossed a stress ball at the wall and caught it over and over, your phone relaying the latest Hero news all the while in the background. Maybe it was a bit lame to spend your lunch alone in your office, listening to useless updates on people you used to know and who used to know you, but it was nice, in a way; you had taken your leave from the realm of Hero support completely, but the friends and bonds you made still held tight and filled your mind with lonely wonder. It might have been easier to stalk their socials, it might've been easier to scroll through your contacts list to call them up, but there were some you couldn't stomach reaching for.
“Pro Hero Dabi comes up victorious once again! Will the blue-flame hero surpass his father, Endeavour, in the next Hero rankings?!”
You caught the ball and squeezed it tighter and tighter. It'd be easy to pop the thing, or even turn it to ash with your quirk, but both would be rather unseemly for a physician such as yourself.
“But he hasn't come out of the wreckage unscathed! It seems his support team'll have their hands full with repairing that suit after—”
You locked your phone the second repair and upgrade ideas came to mind. There was no reason to torture yourself. There was no reason to to remind yourself of snowy hair, Swiss topaz eyes, or cocky, lop-sided smiles. You didn't need to remember, no matter how much you wanted to.
But the words of the number two would echo in your mind when you least expected it, and your want to recall all the good in that family faded with the flame in your heart:
“Touya deserves better.”
Yes, he did. Touya deserved everything.
