I Sat With You (The Abortion Poem)
Poems about Abortions are often written in one of the following viewpoints: that of the innocent child, the anti-abortionist or pro-choice. However this is the truthful perspective of a friend who accompanies her bestie to undergo this procedure. LEt me know your thoughts on the piece... p.s. it was written to be a spoken word piece.
I SAT WITH YOU
Bright lights,
white gloves,
stink scent of latex,
room cold, and lonely… but still, I sat with you.
Doc’s talking trying to relax you but I feel like he should be relaxingme,
’cause they shit that’s about to take place? he always see, not me.
And I know it ain’t me its happening to,
but I rather take his place,
because I have already seen this world,
his life has yet to take place.
Or so the websites tell me,
’cause I researched this shit before we came here and they say he won’t feel any pain where he’s going.
People say ain’t no life when you living in darkness,
but a womb where a heart beats and blood flows is enough for me to know that God’s light shone inside,
of you…
And this Godchild of mine,
if ‘he’ were a girl I would call him ‘divine’
because even though his father is a fuckshot
I know that he would have no wants or needs if it were up to me…
And as I hold mother’s hands I begin to cry,
’cause how can I love someone so much I have never met?
How can I say I love someone when its me who’s partially paying for their death?
(Cause Mama couldn’t afford it)
But Jah know its for her better,
this storm called her life she cannot weather
…ALONE.
‘Baby daddy don’t help (chuckles)
He can’t even afford to pay,
which is why I am here today,
holding the hands of the mother of my Godchild,
who I didn’t help to conceive but ‘yal better believe when I get up out this doctor’s office I’ma
KILL… this nigga.
‘Cause every nigga wanna be a man,
or someone’s man but,
when it’s time tto man up they cry like little boys
ridin’ round to bars trying to be big time stars…
But you can’t live an American lifestyle on a Bahamian budget (baby)
And your cars can’t drive away all the ghostys that’s gonna’ haunt Baby momma’s thoughts…
‘Cause she’s here squeezing MY hands – not yours,
And I can see blood on this hospital floor and I know that when I reach heaven’s doors
God is gonna charge me for MY part.
But God, this chapter I did not start,
just a small verse in this big ass play where the actors think everything is a game.
And life is not a game,
life ended here today,
and as we get in my car and drive away…
In that garbage bag lies more hopes and daydreams than my mind can conceive…
And that nigga will NEVER understand what it means to be a man.
‘Cause he don’t understand that life ended here today.
For this procedure he did not pay.
Her hand he did not hold,
For this baby only she & I bled.
No tears did he shed.
That baby will live on in our hearts and minds,
in the eyes of every child that will cross our paths.
I sat with you,
my friend…
through bright lights,
white gloves,
and the stink scent of latex…
The room was cold,
and lonely,
but still,
I sat with you.
GOP: I Want Govt. Out Of Your Life, Just Not Your Uterus
OK, so I'm watching the Republican debate on YouTube. I love how the candidates preach about getting government out of our lives, but then take a stance to take the abortion choice away from women. How any man could ever claim to have a right to have a say in this (unless he donated the actual damn sperm), I don't know.
If your gay, don't feel left out, they want to crawl into bed with you too, sinner.
Kudos to Ron Paul on this Issue, libertarians have their uses.
Little girls grow up to be big girls who grow up to be teenagers who have questions and concerns. What GSUSA does – and very effectively – is leave it to individual councils to determine what its needs are. And though rumors about the Girl Scouts' alleged feminist agenda have swirled for years -- what with its frightening message of empowerment and education -- one thing is true: If you're scared of having a daughter participate in an organization dedicated to teaching girls to be "considerate and caring, courageous and strong," one that tells them to "make the world a better place," and one that, significantly, encourages girls to find their own answers and make their own decisions, by all means, you'd better keep her out of the Scouts.
Personally I wish I had this version of the Girl Scouts instead of what my troop was -- glorified arts-and-crafts hour + TRIP TO THE MAAAALLLLLLLL bullshit.
Abortion: No Way Around
It’s not alive. It’s only a fetus. It’s too small to even be anything. Those are some of the defenses made for aborting unborn children. Lets just for a moment say that those statements are true. If that’s the case, then there are some words that are left out that are very crucial and when put back into those statements it changes the meaning. It’s not alive YET. It’s only a fetus FOR NOW. It’s too small to even be anything RIGHT NOW. With just the re-placement of those words, a whole new arena is opened. If the fetus continues to develop, it will become undeniably a baby and a human life and that baby will eventually enter into this world, grow up, and contribute to society. Those are facts that can not be denied by anyone. You might be able to say that it’s not a life now and justify terminating a pregnancy that way, but even if that was right – which it isn’t – there’s that looming “yet” that can not be ignored. Should an artist destroy a painting because it’s not done yet? Should a flower be cut from its roots because it hasn’t blossomed yet? Should a house be destroyed because it’s not finished being built? Should a life be ended because it’s not fully developed yet? Because something is considered incomplete people can justify murder because they’re not looking at the whole picture. Each human being was once a fetus in a womb. What if you had been aborted? You weren’t YET considered to be a life, but you became one didn’t you. And that is why there should not be abortions because it is murder. Even if you don’t believe that life begins at conception, life WILL begin and that is murder because you are stopping life. There’s no way around it. Abortion is murder.
