3.Does your character have an accent? What does it sound like?

Adelein’s accent is really hard to pin down. Not because I don’t know what it would sound like but because she’s gone through two different accents in her lifetime starting with a bretic accent speaking common (similar to a french accent speaking english) and then that got slightly washed out when Adelein abandoned bretic to favor dunmeris when she was still a child. In my personal cannon, the change in dunmeris accent in Skyrim (the game) mainly attributed to the difference between inland and outland Morrowind (that weird pseudo-British thing but that’s a whole different topic aside from the point). 

When she speaks common, Adelein hardly deviates from Imperial pronunciation but on occasion her hybrid accent may show through.

━━ FULL NAME: Adelein Gardinier ━━ GENDER & SEXUALITY:   Female, asexual homoromantic ━━ ETHNICITY & SPECIES:   Breton and a quarter dunmer ━━ BIRTHPLACE & BIRTHDATE: 13th of Sun’s dusk 4E 175,  Evermore, High Rock ━━ GUILTY PLEASURES:   All manner of romantic things, since Adelein had adamantly conveyed herself as ace/aro in the past while she is in fact a hopeless romantic. Though subtle, she is not above leaving out whimsy in her writings, which often have very astute analytical ideas about passion. She is still very opposed to things of the sexual nature, but will ramble on about amorous concepts for pages of private journals.

━━ PHOBIAS:  There isn't much within the normal definition of the world that unsettles Adelein. There are a lot of harrowing concepts that hardly phase her but what she does find unsettling is deeply impacting to her. She fears the vulnerability of her own emotions that were once absent in her mind, she also fears losing her identity to Hermaeus Mora. Above all, she does understand how capable Narcisse is, but silently keeps to herself the reality of how broken Adelein would be if something was to happen to her.

━ WHAT THEY WOULD BE FAMOUS / INFAMOUS FOR:  Mantling a god. Actually according to my cannon based on the universe of TES, Adelein was responsible for convincing Septimus Signus to write Ruminations on the Elder Scrolls, and was a great deal of aid in allowing Neloth to learn more about the Black Books. Later in her own story, Adelein establishes quite a name for herself in High Rock.

━ WHAT HAVE THEY / WOULD THEY HAVE GOTTEN ARRESTED FOR:  Adelein was arrested and captured by an encampment of Thalmor once, there were no survivors. She's probably wanted on several cases of murder, but in her later years she toned that down a bit.

━ CHARACTER MOST LIKELY TO MURDER THEM:  Narcisse, because she's honestly the only one that is able to get past her cunning. By that I mean, with puns. Murder her with puns. (Seriously though if anyone is capable it would be her)

━ FAVORITE BOOK GENRE:   Philosophical, technical, autobiographies of very strange and important individuals.

━ LEAST FAVORITE BOOK CLICHE:  Romance and sex being nearly inseparable to media. Adelein will one day write and entire novel series that leaves the presence of sex absolutely null.

━ TALENTS AND / OR POWERS:  Adelein has a plethora of talents that focus on very technical aspects of knowledge. She is a skilled surgeon, an observational astrologer, a magniloquent writer and a cunning strategist. Her powers equally match her talents over time, strongly focusing on conjuring deadra and aspects of Apocrypha into Mundas to serve her. Adelein can manipulate tendrils upon portals at her wrists and also summon things similar to the Earthbone breaking horrors that were described in the bosmeri Wild Hunt.

━ WHY SOMEONE MIGHT LOVE THEM: A lot of the sociopathic tendencies that Adelein has is not something she can control, but she is capable of caring and learning how to care for people. A few individuals with patience or curiosity alike, have managed to get past the unnerving exterior of Adelein Gardinier to find that she is simply an inquisitive mind that houses a myriad fascinating questions and philosophies. She doesn't spare any passion once she realizes that a relationship is formed, and is a very loyal, honest, and protective person. Even in her platonic friendships Adelein is still quite capable of being admired and appreciated.

━ WHY SOMEONE MIGHT HATE THEM:  There are many reasons, Adelein has hurt a lot of people without remorse. She has manipulated fools into their own folly and discovered knowledge quite easily that others nearly sacrificed all of their existence and sanity for. What she is, fundamentally, can also cause people to hate her almost instantly.  

━ HOW THEY CHANGE:  Adelein goes through her transformation once she meets Narcisse, having realized a few ideals that never graced her mind before. At one point she believed that her existence was pointless without the connection of Hermaeus Mora as their wills and ideals are shared. Adelein only vaguely had an approximate idea of what having self-actualization could feel like, but was apathetic in wanting that for herself. The only concept of empathy that she ever knew was shattered by her father's broken state of mind and filled that small nook with hatred. After a while, however. Adelein realized how important it was to have her own sense of awareness. How much Hermaeus Mora depended on her in a way that gave the conduit diplomatic immunity on Mundas. Once she felt her first agonizing experience of heartbreak and then the acceptance of mutual adoration following after, Adelein realized that she was more then capable of experiencing life in the way that others do. She now accepts friendships, and realizes that she feels a great amount of endearment towards Narcisse in a way that is both equally terrifying and satisfying.

━ WHY YOU LOVE THEM: I made this character by putting together a lot of things that were interesting to me, but then suddenly grew very important. I wanted a female character written with the tropes commonly given to male characters, I wanted to flex my Lovecraftian writing muscles and also rediscover the metaphysical aspects of The Elder Scrolls through the eyes of a character and not just solely viewing a conglomeration of esoteric lore. At the time I was also struggling with parts of my identity that Adelein had accepted very adamantly (like my asexuality and lack of confidence in some of my mental disabilities that she was able to work around). While Adelein struggled with things that I felt like I had come to terms with years ago, there were some things that I still struggled with that Adelein handled perfectly well in my writing. Not only was she a character that I got to write my own past experiences into, but I was able to learn from the way that I wrote her as well. I felt like a lot changed in me while going through the process of her story and developing her as a person.

// 19. What were your character’s deepest disillusions? In life? What are they now?

The facade that Adelein held and convinced herself of, was that she was not motivated by her own means. Adelein felt content sharing the motivations of a deadric prince rather then deriving her own goals and dreams. She was also convinced of her complete sociopathy and denied needing to connect to anything via empathy. She still struggles to discern why some things seem to matter more then others, and why they feel specific to her own will. Adelein is constantly ruminating what her autonomy means, if she can have her own ideas of empathy and concern for herself and others without losing her mind in the process. Her current disillusion, is that she needs her lack of empathy to be sane, which is partially true.

41. Is your character aware of who they are? Strengths? Weaknesses? Idiosyncrasies? Capable of self-irony?

 Adelein knows who she is yes, but that also means that she knows what she is. She knows that her lack of concern for others makes interactions with others difficult, she knows that she is disheveled in appearance but does not care. She can direct humor towards herself and her quirks quite easily and almost use it as a means to direct her attention away from complicated matters. Making light of herself, is also a means to make light of Hermaeus Mora, as well. A subtle jab that can often be leaden with spite.  She does ponder her strengths and weaknesses however. Adelein is quite fragile as a person, and couldn’t withstand a hit in combat. She has honed her skills into being illusive, conjuring other beings to fight for her. This also goes for her emotional well being. Adelein prefers to keep a placid and disconcerted composure. Anything within the realm of her own emotions is turbulent and bewildering. She does well in concealing her weak points.

24. What social groups and activities does your character attend? What role do they like to play? What role do they actually play, usually?The role that Adelein plays is to actively avoid social groups and activities. On occasion, she will have to collaborate with others and will act as the silent but useful source of knowledge. Whatever brought her to interact with others had to have been quite important.36. Do they like to suffer? Like to see other people suffering? 

Adelein is indifferent to it, but if she happens to find a reason to bond with anyone then she would feel oddly uncomfortable to see them suffer. If it must happen to somebody that she has no concern for, then her empathy is detached. Adelein is also indifferent to her own suffering most of the time, her solution to pain of the physical and emotional sort, is to cease caring about it.

2. Their mother? How do they think of her? What do they hate? Love? What influence - literal or imagined - did the mother have?Adelein’s mother, Cosette, looked after her daughter for only a month after she was born. When troubles with her marriage resurfaced she left the manor, her husband Theodore, and Adelein without any means to find or contact her. Adelein doesn’t remember her and doesn’t hold any harsh feelings towards the matter since her father was insufferable and callous. It was more of a surprise that she didn’t leave sooner, actually. The rumors of Cosette were not quite appetizing either, painting her to be a greedy woman who only wanted to marry into nobility. 4. What type of discipline was your character subjected to at home? Strict? Lenient? 

She saw more of the servants then her own father. Her father was quite strict with odd rules and strange etiquette, but Adelein was given diplomatic immunity among the rest of the household. She was taught to speak politely and act as a noble should, but the child wasn’t much for trouble when her nose was always in a book.  21. What are your character’s manners like? What is their type of hero? Whom do they hate? 

Adelein’s etiquette evolved when she was taken to Morrowind. She speaks properly for the most part, but she does not withhold her sarcasm or brutal sense of honesty. There isn’t anything worth her reverence, but plenty to despise. Adelein appears to exist in a constant state of mild irritation towards others when nothing intriguing comes to play. She is fascinated by those that incite philosophical or unconventional ideas, however. 44. How badly do they want to obtain their life objectives? How do they pursue them?This was always a conundrum faced by the conduit, whether she shared Hermaeus Mora’s ideals or dared to have her own. When she tastes any sense of ambition it confuses her, she has to take a moment to discern where it is coming from. She doesn’t quite understand if she should pursue these fleeting interests or not, not knowing if it’s her own. Adelein knows that she needs certain assets to acquire certain things, but is unsure of why, for the most part.

Has there ever been anyone who caused an instant attraction for Adelein? What was it that caused the attraction? Was it love, lust, or something else? Did they approach the object of their desire? What happened?

  In the past Adelein has never felt attracted to anyone, especially not in a lustful way. She can often find herself waxing poetic about ideas and concepts as if she has a vague idea of what romantic attraction could be but she was never able to attach those ideas to a person–or at least not until recently. Adelein does not feel lust and has never experienced the need to have sex. Even upon ruminating the possibility that she would become romantically attracted to somebody she worries that her lack of desire could be misconstrued as disinterest. She would also be greatly confused by these feelings and would take a moderate amount of time to know what she was experiencing. She hesitates far too long to take action.

Adelein, on interaction

[[OOC]] I wanted to write this for a while now, expressing the many ways that I have taken such a sociopath and written her into the interactions of many. 

To start off, some of my best interactions have come to characters that are drastically opposite of her. Ones that are caring, concerned, optimistic, and forgiving of her nature. This is an archetype that Adelein has no understanding of how to deal with, and therefore just ‘accepts’ them with neutral standing. She can be quite negligent to her basic needs, such as eating, sleeping, and generally taking care of herself and for anyone to be concerned enough to kindly remind her of that, it is a bit confusing. It stems from a her childhood of having servants that kindly cared for her. It’s a natural comfort that even she is completely alluded by. Usually there is a small amount of protest before giving up, like - “No..please do not. Fine, okay.” Interactions with others are still met with a forlorn discomfort, but I encourage others to try to explore that. You can’t respect my boundaries as a mun but the muse is free game. This discomfort Adelein experiences is a tangible boundary of human to deadric connections that she fears could unravel her psyche. She believes her disconnection with mortal desires and comforts is her tether to a higher purpose.  On that note, Adelein will not really feel a connection of friendship or love with anyone, and regards them as more of an object of study. She is not ignorant however, and developed a ‘swtich’ in her mind that feigns or explores basic social interactions with others. Tea, yes everyone likes tea…make tea, do not talk about dissecting live people on occasion or that you are a living conduit of a deadric prince! Adelein does make decent company on occasion, accompanied by her words of higher knowledge, but she is always calculating a morbid study with whomever she is interacting with.   She must be wary of social cues in a conversation in order to continue it. Taking note of body language and expression, learning what this person would want to hear, or what they would be fearful of.  Adelein is a master of revulsion, however. Using that to her advantage when she wants to be left a lone. Some of her more well known associates and acquaintances will be completely immune to that, unfortunately. Kel’chathr is not a force to be reckoned with, and Brynvald, Anselm, and Zana-rei are already too well versed in her antics to leave her be. Kel’chathr being repulsed by her = fire death.  Fellow savants, mad intellectuals, and passionate examiners of the metaphysical and scientific aspects of Aurbis are also good for interaction with Adelein. Especially if she isn’t having to hide much from them. She uses the allure of the esoteric in order to catch their interest and knowledge. Adelein reflects Hermaeus Mora’s patience and omnipotent knowledge to string together a plot to reveal the unseen, the aspects of those that they do not often divulge.  At times she may be the breaking point to those that are denying or fighting their own madness. The last subject, is anger. A demon of her own father’s creation that resides in the depths of her mind. She is quite successful in suppressing it with patience and disconnection, but it will never disappear. There is only a certain type of person that could break her control over that and unleash a very frightening individual. Kel’chathr has been the only one so far to give a possibility of this wrath. Adelein’s anger is one of calculating force. Of a vindictive, and truly chaotic form. The energy from that would leave her vulnerable to deadric corruption, madness, and demise. She would no longer be of use to the prince.
